But the spirit of Christian love and fellowship was present as Peachtree folks gathered at the church for worship.Sanctuary flowers were given by Dianne and Ricky Tucker in memory of Rickey's parents, Jensy and Kent Tucker.The special worship music was "Change my Heart, O God" by the adult Choir, under the direction of the Pastor.

RED OAK -- Four years later, history repeated itself at Northern Nash High School.When they were eighth-graders at Red Oak Middle, Susie Sykes and Chad Haggerty were selected as that school's Athletes of the Year.Both went to NNHS together and closed out their careers recently by being saluted as the Knights' Athletes of the Year.The talented Sykes was a three-sport standout at NN who excelled in basketball, volleyball and softball. She will continue her hoops career at William Peace University in Raleigh.

2635.The stars were shining at celebrity tournament
The Boys and Girls Club held a successful golf tournament this weekend but then again, you can’t expect anything but success when you involve the UNC Tarheels. The tournament was done with the help of Rocky Mount native Phil Ford, who went on to play basketball for the Tarheels and then moved on to the NBA. It’s admirable that someone of Ford’s stature would come back to his hometown and help the Boys and Girls Club. Even more admirable are the other celebrities Ford got to come out to participate.

Former Nash County Sheriff Frank Brown, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, February 17 at the age of 81. Brown served as Sheriff of Nash County for twenty years, serving five terms from 1974 to 1994.Brown was born in Bailey in 1933. After graduating from Bailey High School in 1952, he briefly attended Atlantic Christian College before joining the Army. He served his country during the Korean conflict from 1953-1955.

Funds from a concealed carry class in December were contributed to the financial support of Mark Boykin who was severely beaten when he confronted three men attempting to steal from his neighbor's yard. More than 150,000 troops are serving overseas and are away from their families. Cell Phones for Soldiers and McDonald’s are calling on all Americans to support these brave men and women by donating their unused cell phones. Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect over 50,000 cell phones to help keep troops connected with their families.

Nash County residents were among those earning degress from East Carolina University during the Spring 2009 semester. Students graduating with undergraduate degrees and maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.90 are distinguished as graduating Summa Cum Laude. Those graduating with a 3.60 grade point average are Magna Cum Laude and those with a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 are Cum Laude. Gene Edward Joyner, age 69, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013. Born in Nash County on July 11, 1943, he is the son of the late Merl Joyner and Agnes Viverette Joyner. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Lorraine Norman and her husband Ted E. and Beverly Frances Joyner; brother, Billy Joyner; and special aunt, Clara Viverette Boyle.

2683.SNHS FFA competes in Career Development events
The Southern Nash FFA Chapter recently competed in several Career Development Events at the East Central Region Rally at Johnston Community College. The Introduction to Horticulture Team place 1st in the region. Team members included Travis Stapleton (3rd highest scorer), Montrell Stokes (2nd highest scorer), Stephanie Seighman, and Andrew Glover. The Parliamentary Procedure Team placed 2nd in the region. Team members included Jordan, Jackson, Abby Strickland, Courtney Barbour, Bobby Stocks, Turner Perkerson and Rebecca Arnold. Stephanie Proctor placed 3rd in the Creed Speaking event.

2686.Nash County 4-H holds annual awards ceremony
Nash County 4-H celebrated the achievements of youth and volunteers last Monday night at the annual 4-H Achievement Awards Program. Youth were recognized for their accomplishments during the 2024 year, with several top awards being handed out. The Sew What 4-H Club was named the Club of the Year while the club's leader, Jane Tyson, was named the 4-H Volunteer of the Year. The Volunteer of the Year Award is sponsored in memory of Peggy Enroughty and in honor of Joseph Enroughty and the Enroughty family.

Another Nashville resident will be added to the list of Distinguished Citizens for Nashville’s Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night. The Chamber will host its annual Distinguished Citizen awards program on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. During the program, a Nashville resident or business person will be surprised with the recognition.

NASHVILLE -  Harry Lee Askey, 69, of Nashville died Thursday, July 8, 2010.  A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. NASHVILLE - The lineup for activities is complete for the New Years Eve Egg Drop 2025, the second annual event by Braswell Family Farms. The three-hour, family-friendly event is set to run Dec. 31 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nashville Junction, 723 S. Barnes Street, with fireworks and the Egg Drop at 7. The grounds will open at 3:30 p.m.

2698.Bethel Heroes
The United Daughters of the Confederacy Bethel Heroes Chapter 636 won awards at the UDC North Carolina Division 117th Annual Convention held in Durham in October. The chapter received the Daniel Bramston Coltrane Cup for making the highest record in UDC work and was awarded a certificate for being a superior chapter.

Students in Mrs. Cindy Puckett's four-year-old class at the Nashville United Methodist Church Weekday School recently learned about community helpers. Students received visits from area community helpers and visited the Rocky Mount Police Department. On March 1, Graphic reporter Amanda Clark visited the students to talk about being a reporter.
