The choir sang "I'm Standing on the Rock," under the direction of the pastor. The sermon topic chosen by Pastor Whitehouse was "We're Going to Make It." It was based on scripture found in Genesis 50 and Hebrew 11. This is his concluding sermon on the life of Joseph.

2826.UNC Cancer Center implements Cancer Lay Navigation Program
Mike Beaudin lost his wife 3-1/2 years ago after her year-long struggle with lung cancer. He was her 24/7 caregiver. "I was fortunate to be able to be there for my wife," he said, "through both the good times and the difficult." Today, Beaudin has been appointed as the first cancer lay navigator, a volunteer position, at the Danny Talbott Cancer Center, located on the Nash UNC Health Care campus.

2838.Citizen voices concern over local event
RED OAK -- The town board of Red Oak entertained several visitors at its regular monthly meeting on Monday.Philip Boistard presented concerns he has related to events held on his neighbor's property. "I'm just concerned about this thing getting out of control," he said. Boistard is referring to the obstacle course competitions held on Mike Cook's property twice a year. Cook has appeared on American Ninja Warrior and has built obstacle courses like those featured on the show in his backyard.

Lee-Ann Walters, a first grader at Nashville Elementary School, tries on the hat of Nash County Sheriff Sergeant S.K. Ricks at Careers on Wheels Day last Tuesday at the school. Over 24 presenters came out to the school and parked their vehicles around the school, speaking to students about their jobs. All the classes got to rotate to each vehicle and learn about the different types of careers in their community.

But one huge disadvantage is having to deal with irresponsible hunters this time of year. 2873.Nash launches student vaccine incentive
Nash County students ages 12 to 18 will be awarded a $100 gift card after receiving their second COVID vaccine dose with parental consent as part of a vaccine incentive program.The Nash County Board of Education approved the incentive program at their board meeting earlier this month. The school system will now partner with Nash UNC Healthcare instead of the county health department for administering the vaccination clinics at schools.

2886.County looks at pay study, EMS needs
Nash County Commissioners made two changes to the budget last week during a work session before moving forward with setting a public hearing.Typically, the board meets on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. but due to scheduling conflicts among board members, the meeting was moved to Monday, June 8 at 10 a.m. A public hearing on the proposed 2015-2016 budget is set for that meeting. The budget is proposed at just under $92 million dollars and includes no increase in property taxes.

2888.Quadruple murder under investigation
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate a quadruple murder on Fishing Creek Road in the Glenview Community of Halifax County. The murders happened sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, Halifax County Sheriff West Tripp said. Deputies received the call around 9:30 a.m. on Monday after one of the victims, Janice Harris, 72, didn't show up for work at her building supply job in Rocky Mount. A family member went to check on Harris and found her, her husband, James, 88, and another couple, James Whitley, 76, and Peggy Jo Whitley, 67, dead in the home.

Grant funds have helped the library purchase a customized book bike to help promote library programs and services beyond the physical walls of the library building.
