New county health director says new facility is a plus (relevance: 100%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
NASHVILLE- Nash County's new Health Director, Angela Manning, hired June 1st, is grateful for landing in Nash in the right place, at the right time.
"I feel like I landed on a really great island that I need to be a good steward of," Manning said when interviewed three days into her new job. Manning communicated her excitement about multiple aspects of 'Nash Health', especially the approaching move to a new consolidated facility (Med Park, on the grounds of UNC Nash) and having a community-based staff.

Fame, fortune, ego and scams come with the writer's life (relevance: 71.4%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
As many of you know -- because I've relentlessly posted on social media and talk about it all the time -- my fifth book came out earlier this year.
This of course has made me tremendously famous and super rich with an out-of-control ego, something most of us dream about. [Note: Isn't it interesting that so many folks want to be rich, but also hate rich people?].
When people find out I'm a writer, they sometimes ask questions, such as "Have you written anything I would have heard of?"

Nashville alters bulk, yard waste pickup (relevance: 71.4%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
NASHVILLE - Effective July 1st, Nashville residents will have a change in bulk item, electronics and yard waste pickup dates. Town officials say the reason for the town code changes is to make manpower and equipment usage more efficient, thereby freeing up additional man hours for other duties, such as pothole repair. BULK ITEMS
Bulk items - including used electronics- will now be picked up, by appointments, once a month- on the first Friday of each month- rather than every week.

NC House amends Senate bill (relevance: 57.1%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
RALEIGH - A May 2026 Senate bill leaders say was filed to protect Rocky Mount utility customers has received some significant tweaks from the House, including the establishment of a Public Utility Advisory Committee that would include customers who live outside city limits.
Senate Bill 1076, whose short title is the Rocky Mount/Louisburg Utility Rev./Advisory, was voted on Tuesday by a House committee; it will now continue to the House Rules committee and then to the main floor. Should it pass all those hurdles, it then goes back to the Senate for its approval.

Where is time going and why can't we get anything done? (relevance: 28.6%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
I have noticed two specific similarities in recent conversations. Where is time going and why can't I get anything done?
Thinking back to slower paced times when we had to use a road map when driving to a new destination, we researched information using the card catalog at a library, and reading books rather than digital devices. Those days were not all that bad though everything took a little more effort.
Now we listen to our GPS guide us to our destination. I'm willing to bet many have to use GPS when returning to the same location.

Nash school board approves mens' high school volleyball (relevance: 28.6%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
NASHVILLE- In one fell swoop, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association has sanctioned both men's volleyball and flag football, meaning that both will have state championships this coming school year.
Angie Miller, Special Assistant of Auxiliary Services, Operations and Athletics, requested approval from the school board to start the ball rolling on Men's Volleyball, beginning with gathering information over the summer to see if there was interest at any or all of the four district high schools.

County shows interest in W.L. Greene school purchase (relevance: 28.6%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
NASHVILLE - Two weeks after the Nash County Board of Education dusted off the "for sale" sign for the W.L Greene School property in Nashville, Nash County is showing some interest.
Declared surplus at the June 1st school board meeting, which freed up the property to be put on the market, the former school was formally offered up to Nash County commissioners at their June 15 meeting.

Pollinator Symposium encourages homeowners to transform yards into wildlife havens (relevance: 14.3%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
NASHVILLE - In celebration of National Pollinator Week, Nash County Extension Master Gardener volunteers will host the fourth annual Pollinator Symposium, "From Backyard to Biodiversity," on Saturday, June 27, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Nash County Arboretum.
Inspired by a growing movement to incorporate native plants into residential landscapes, the symposium will feature three expert speakers who will share practical ways homeowners can support pollinators and improve local ecosystems. Attendees will learn how small changes in their own yards can make a meaningful difference for wildlife and biodiversity.

Drought sparks fires in Nash County (relevance: 14.3%, date: Jun 24, 2026)
Nash County has had more than triple its number of usual wildfires, also called "outside fires," this year, and local foresters say the current drought is to blame.
Chad Brandon, District Forester, and Faith Hoskins, Assistant Nash County Ranger, sat down with The Graphic recently at the NC Forest Service office in Nashville to explain the connection.
Fire Season, Brandon said, usually runs from February through April each year - but due to Nash County's Extreme Drought status, Fire season shows no sign now of stopping.
