3306.Grocery stores, an entertainment destination
I suppose a sign of getting old is when you start noticing a change in how you view things. For example, I saw a commercial during the Super Bowl where a couple had a bunch of people over to their house to watch The Big Game. They brought food and drinks. At one point, a guest shows up at the door with bags of chicken sandwiches, which are piled up on a dining room table.

3309.Getting what we want in school construction
If there was ever a time to NOT want to be on the Nash County Board of Commissioners or the Nash-Rocky Mount School system, last Monday would have been that day. That was the day that both Boards, each of which wants the same outcome (ends) in construction but has different plans (means) to get there, came into conflict. Both want projects completed at Middlesex, Southern Nash and Rocky Mount. They differ on the order of how these projects should be completed. As is the case in most conflicts, it comes down to money.

I’m going to go ahead and start with a disclaimer: Sometimes, it doesn’t matter how your mama raised you, you’re just bound to do some things that indicate your lack of wisdom or a failure to “act like you’ve got some sense.” I’ve been telling my mama that for years — generally in reference to all my siblings — but now I’m afraid that finger is pointing back to me.

3315.Reader says forced annexation is un-American, un-democratic
Dear editor: My wife and I live on a small farm located on Eastern Avenue. We rent the farm out for farming crops and I also own a small nursery where we grow our own plants, mostly evergreens. When I received a letter from the City of Rocky Mount saying they were going to annex our farm and residents into the City of Rocky Mount, I could not believe it. They did not ask me if I wanted to be a resident of Rocky Mount, they said I was being annexed. The more I thought about being forced to do something against my will, without a right to even vote, is this the American way. Forced annexation is un-American and un-democratic.
