1181.Spring Hope mulls street closure permits
Spring Hope's Board of Commissioners met Monday night to continue discussing issues from their previous meeting on April 4. One of the issues that was discussed is whether or not there should be permits for street closures for special events. Town Manager Jae Kim said currently anyone could come before the town asking to close the town street for an event. This could be anyone from a property owner, or a nonprofit business."The way it's set up now, there's no standard or permitting process to allow or deny that, so the way it's been set up it almost, you would almost have to allow everyone that possibility," Kim said.

1182.Cursive writing skills could be fruitful
I recall, back in 2016, helping one of my grand-nieces with her homework. I noticed none of her work was written in cursive. During another study session, I noticed she couldn't read cursive. It was then I learned she was one of the age groups that missed the teachings of writing and reading cursive. The penmanship skill had been removed from schools in 2010 when state education systems adopted the Common Core State Standards. Many states have since then added cursive back to their lesson plans. However, many of the Gen Z generation were skipped over.

1189.‘Dogs Board The Train
ROCKY MOUNT -- Kevin Crudup stopped the train just before practice Monday -- long enough to see if any of his players were interested in hopping off. After watching the comments of Green Bay Packers’ coach Mike McCarthy toward ex-Pack quarterback Brett Favre, Crudup saw a similarity or two with his situation as the first-year mentor at Nash Central High School.

1190.Lessons learned from a little “green stamp”
If you’re under the age of 30 –– you may have no idea what I’m about to ramble on about. While going through some of our mother’s items after her passing, my sisters and I came across one little lone S&H Green Stamp tucked away with some other stuff that brought back a lot of memories. While at my parent’s home on Thanksgiving Day, my nephew who is only a couple years younger than I, commented on a clothes hamper which still sits in the bathroom.

1198.A few suggestions for last minute gifts
Many people dive headlong into Christmas somewhere around the week before Halloween, and put their trees up and decorate before temperatures in this area have broken 75.These are the people who ask me if I'm "ready for Christmas yet" before I've even had the chance to consider the damage I'll do at the Thanksgiving Day table. They've finished shopping and hope to have everything wrapped before December 1, around the time I'm starting to get serious about thinking about doing some thinking about getting serious about Christmas.
