Luke's Word for the Week
Luke's Word for the Week

God is always redeeming, always working for good, and beckoning his children to come back home. The enemy is always ruining, working for evil, and wooing God's children away from God, resulting in a destination that was not their destiny. Our lives are a constant battle, a spiritual one that usually plays out in the physical realm that we rarely truly notice. One of the ways the battle of our lives wages is through two aspects of life - that of clarity and that of chaos. One is a gift from the Creator and the other is a tool of the enemy.

STANHOPE -- Nash Central High School achieved a bit of history during last Friday night's championship round of the Big East Conference Basketball Tournament.
For one night, the Southern Nash Gymnasium was transformed into The Dawg Pound as Nash Central swept the boys and girls crowns for the first time in the 15-year existence of the school.
It was certainly an evening to remember for Central, which finished off another first -- a four-game season sweep of rival Rocky Mount -- to take the boys title for veteran head coach Renny Taylor.

"(Methodist) just stood out to me. After I visited there, I knew I wanted to go there.''

Knights look to playoffs

STANHOPE -- This much was evident from Northern Nash's brief appearance at the Big East Conference Boys Basketball Tournament -- the Knights are a different team when senior point guard Darius Spragley is not in the lineup.
With Spragley sitting out due to a toe injury, the top-seeded Knights were upset by a 72-65 margin by Rocky Mount in overtime in a hard-fought semifinal contest last Wednesday.

ROCKY MOUNT -- The tone for Faith Christian School's 2017 season was actually set last May -- moments after the Patriots lost in tough fashion in the semifinals of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association.
It was at that point that Faith set a lofty ambition for this year -- and that goal included making a run at a possible state championship on the NCISAA 2-A level.
"You kind of make that goal every season, but you have to have some things go your way,'' said FCS veteran head coach Greg Clifton.

The contest will be held July 18 at MacPherson Stadium near Greensboro. Tickets for the showdown will be available at the gate.
The selection process for players was difficult, but McCarthy has chosen his roster, and it was recently released (along with the West side) by the NCCA.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Sophomore Justin Tankelewicz broke the program record for three-pointers made in a season on Sunday afternoon in Everett Gymnasium, draining his 80th and 81st of the season in North Carolina Wesleyan College's 94-76 win over Huntingdon in USA South Conference men's basketball action.
The 15-year old record of 79 treys was previously set by former Bishop Bobby Jenkins during the 2001-2002 season.
