Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A traffic stop on Highway 264 led to the arrest of a Greenville man on drug charges.
Nash County Sheriff's Deputy C. Patterson initiated a traffic stop around 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 on a vehicle for a violation. The stop was initiated on US 264 near mile marker 29.

To ensure the safety and security of employees and the general public, the city of Rocky Mount has implemented new initiatives.
Residents and city employees will now be greeted by a security officer located on the first floor of the Frederick E. Turnage Municipal Building (City Hall).
Employees are required to display city issued identification badges on their clothing.

Seniors graduate Tar River Academy

A total of 39 Tar River Academy (TRA) seniors graduated on Thursday, May 30, 2019 during their commencement ceremony held in the school's auditorium. During their mid-year commencement in December 2018, 22 seniors graduated for a total of 61 graduates during the 2018- 2019 school year. The Class of 2019 have goals after TRA as two will attend a four-year college, 15 will attend a two-year college, eight will enlist in the military and 14 will enter the workforce.

Earlier this week, my 12-year-old daughter went to King's Dominion with a friend. A combination of nerves and excitement, I can only imagine the girls giggling on the ride there as they mapped out their day. The decision to accept the invitation, however, didn't come easy for her.
My daughter's experience with big coasters has been limited, and the thought of riding them terrified her.
