The good food and camaraderie were missing but Nash County Cooperative Extension still celebrated agriculture last month at the annual Farm City Breakfast.
This year's event was held virtually due to COVID-19 but the agenda was mainly the same.
"We celebrate the land and what it represents, the sustenance and provision of it, the stewardship of it, all of these things," Parker Philips, Chair of the Nash County Extension Advisory Council, said at the start of the event.

Bass Brothers of Momeyer received the Farm City Breakfast Agribusiness Award. The business has been in operation since 1905.

A longtime and well-known businessman in Nashville has passed away.
Jimmie Hinton passed away last Thursday, December 10 after a battle with COVID-19. He was 71 years old.
Hinton was the son of J.L. and Ruby Mae Hinton and a lifelong resident of Nashville.

Vaccinations for COVID-19 began in the United States this week but Nash County Health Director Bill Hill said it could still be a few more months before Nash County residents get a chance to get the vaccine.
Hill said on Monday, December 14, the day the first vaccines were administered, that critical health care workers and EMS workers will be first in line to get the vaccine. After that, it would likely be given to staff and residents at congregate living facilities.

Nash County's newest commissioner was sworn in last Monday morning at the start of the board's regular December meeting.
Marvin Arrington was sworn in by Halifax County Judge Teresa Raquel Robinson Freeman.
Arrington said he chose Freeman because she attended the daycare he owned many years ago.

A brief meeting of the Red Oak Town Council included the swearing in of new member Sandra Russ.
Mayor Levell Langley administered the oath of office to Russ at the start of the meeting.
Russ is serving the remaining term of late commissioner Barbara High Tyre, who passed away unexpectedly in October. Tyre's term ends in December 2021.
