Stolen valor unfortunately happens

Dear Editor: Stolen valor happens, but it's a mystery as to why it happens.
Being a veteran gives one a certain self-satisfaction maybe, but besides that, the rewards of service are few.
"Vets" rate a discount in certain quarters sometimes, but other non-vet types are extended discounts too, like senior citizens for instance.

HUNTING DOGS ~ The season is open for some species!!! We may not agree with the practice of hunting with dogs, but we have to act appropriately when we come across one of the hounds. There will be hounds showing up everywhere. Owners will be happy to come get their dogs if you call them, the dogs will have tags. These dogs have homes, they are fed and taken care of. They can look skinny after a couple days of running lost without food. Yes, it can happen that fast. Help them get home.

Fire. There are few things in the world that can captivate me like a good ole fire in the fall here in eastern North Carolina. I would even say that a cool crisp night with leaves all over the ground, a roaring fire and good friends surrounding me is a glimpse of glory.
Simply put, I love fires. I would also simply say, as the church, we should love fire.

I've been writing about issues dealing with the relationship between the local church and the communities in which they exist. This week, I want to address the issue of change. For example, since we walked the aisle of a church and talked to the preacher about asking "Jesus into our heart," got baptized, and officially became a "member" of the church, what difference has been made in us?

Nashville church to celebrate 150 years

Galatia African Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary with two special events.

ROCKY MOUNT -- One week after putting together an explosive offensive performance worthy of a spot in the national record books, the Faith Christian Patriots experienced the opposite end of the gridiron spectrum.
In an important showdown for playoff qualifying and positioning, the Patriots couldn't consistently find the end zone Monday during a 33-18 home loss to rival Arendell Parrott in North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association eight-man football action on the FCS campus.

CHAPEL HILL -- In a duel between Top-25 programs, North Carolina State could not get its running game going during last Friday's Atlantic Coast Conference showdown at rival North Carolina.
It didn't help NCSU's ground cause that the Tar Heels moved ahead early and forced the Wolfpack to play catch-up the rest of the way.
