GREENSBORO -- In his first full season as head coach, Billy Godwin has the University of North Carolina-Greensboro Spartans over the .500 overall mark in the always-competitive Southern Conference.
Godwin, a Nash County native who prepped at Northern Nash, has helped the Spartans compile a 14-13 record to go with a 3-6 worksheet in the SoCon.

STANHOPE -- Jermia Walker has been an instant impact performer since she first stepped on to the court for the Southern Nash Ladybirds as a potential-rich freshman.
Now a sophomore, Walker's exploits have been recognized as the SNHS point guard has earned a position on the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association's All-District 3 Squad for the 2021 campaign.

NASH COUNTY -- After being rivals in high school, Nash Central's Montre' Cash and Northern Nash's Raymond 'Goody' Bullock became fast friends and teammate during four illustrious seasons as members of the Averett University men's basketball program in Danville, Va.
Cash and Bullock made a little bit of history along the way, leading the Cougars to the USA South Conference East Division regular season championship in 2019-20.

Nashville Junction rezoning is approved

Three parcels currently owned by Nashville Building Supply have been rezoned for office and institutional use.
Nashville's Town Council approved the rezoning on Tuesday night at their regular meeting, paving the way for what could eventually be known as the Nashville Junction.
The request was from Michael Hurt, a Franklin County developer who wishes to purchase the 2.92 acres of property and redevelop it.

Boddie Street plan on hold

A decision to convert South Boddie Street into a one-way street to allow for more parking was tabled by Nashville's Town Council on Tuesday night.
A public hearing was held on the request, which several comments in opposition to the idea.
The opposition, coupled with the fact that residential property owners along Boddie were not notified of the public hearing, led council members to table to request. In addition, new conversations with Superior Court Judge Quentin Sumner also led to the item being tabled.

Nash County 4-H hosts livestock show & sale

An over 80 year tradition continued this week as the annual Eastern Carolina 4-H Livestock Show and Sale was held at the Eastern Carolina Livestock Arena in Rocky Mount.
The event typically brings over 150 youth from Nash, Halifax and Wilson Counties, who showcase months of hard work with their steers, lambs, goats and pigs.

Nash County Commissioners pledged support for a long-time Rocky Mount industry on Monday by approving a significant inducement agreement to help with the company's expansion plans.
Cummins Inc. announced plans to invest over $40 million to modernize its facilities at the Rocky Mount Engine Plant in Whitakers.
