STANHOPE -- It hasn't taken long for Chris Mizelle to establish himself as one of the area's most respected soccer coaches.
Mizelle, a Nash County native, is now in charge of both the girls and boys soccer programs at tradition-rich Wilson Fike High School.
Mizelle's boys squad is the three-time defending champion in the Big East Conference, while the girls team is loaded up for the future with a strong group of young standouts.

ROCKY MOUNT -- It was predetermined that either Franklinton High School or Rocky Mount would take boys team medalist honors during Tuesday's Big East Conference Boys Golf Match at Northgreen Country Club.
That's because Franklinton and RM were the only entranst in the three-school event with enough players to be eligible for the team standings.

SN wins against Ladycats
SN wins against Ladycats

BUNN -- Southern Nash stepped out of Big East Conference softball play briefly and came up with a 10-4 road victory Monday against backyard rival Bunn.
The Ladybirds are now 7-1 overall and currently sport a seven-game winning streak under the direction of veteran head coach Scott Collie.
SN never trailed Monday after plating five runs in the top of the first stanza of action.

Pizza Inn surges to Little League victory

ROCKY MOUNT -- Ultra-efficient Colson Gay tossed a complete-game 3-hitter for Pizza Inn, striking out 10 and yielding only 2 walks along the way as he spearheaded an 8-2 win for his squad against the Wesley Men in last Thursday evening's Rocky Mount Little League baseball action at the RM Sports Complex.
Gay received ample offensive support from Toby Bailey, who lead the 'Pie eaters at the dish with a 2-3 outing, and scored two runs in the process.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. -- The 7th-ranked North Carolina Wesleyan College Baseball Team dropped its rematch at Christopher Newport University last Friday, falling 8-7 in a back-and-forth contest.
The tough non-conference loss dropped the Bishops to 23-5 overall, while the Captains improved to 12-7.
