Council approves Nashville Junction

Nashville's Town Council has approved the concept of the Nashville Junction project but said more work needs to be done on the details, particularly with the numbers.
Council members unanimously voted on Tuesday night to accept the proposal presented by developer Michael Hurt but added that just the concept of the project was being accepted.

Franklin Co. man charged with local woman's death

Franklin County sheriff's deputies arrested a Louisburg man they allege sold the drugs that led to a Nashville woman's death.
Tagreed Ertley died on Jan. 26 from a fatal overdose of fentanyl, heroin and gabapentin toxicity, authorities said.
On Monday, members of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office's Special Operations Group arrested Aaron Lloyd, alleging he sold Ertley the drugs to the 38-year-old woman.

Nash hopeful for in person graduations

Nash County Public Schools are working on a graduation plan for the Class of 2021.
Chad Thompson, Executive Director of Secondary Education and CTE for the school system, presented a plan to the Board of Education last Thursday.
Thompson said the plan follows the governor's latest recommendation or guidance but will allow students to have a graduation ceremonies this year.

COVID-19 numbers rise

Nash County Health Director Bill Hill is reporting another surge in positive cases of COVID-19.
On Monday, Hill reported 130 new cases from last Thursday, April 15 to April 19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 10,698.
Hill said Nash County is not alone.

Nash Co. gives first budget snapshot

Nash County Manager Zee Lambs plans to present commissioners with the 2021-2022 recommended budget on May 24.
Commissioners met on Monday to hear where budget deliberations were at. In addition, the Nash County Sheriff's Office made a presentation on two items they wish to see in the budget.

County unveils courtyard markers

Nash County unveiled its two latest honorees to the Commemorative Courtyard on Monday.
Rachel Matthews Joyner and Lou Mitchell Richardson were each recognized on Monday during separate ceremonies.
Joyner served as the Nash County Clerk of Superior Court for 50 years, retiring in 2018. Prior to that, Joyner served as the Assistant to the Clerk of Superior Court for 16 years.

Locally grown food boxes available to senior citizens

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Boxes are available free to Nash County residents 60 years and older on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.
Boxes will be available for pickup at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays starting today, April 22nd, at the Southern Nash Senior Center, 8180 Stoney Hill Church Road in Bailey.
Boxes will contain an assortment of groceries including protein, grain, fruit and vegetables.

Nash County business celebrates 40th year

Vanise Hardee knew at a young age he wanted to own his own business. After spending some time in the banking industry, Hardee opened Hardee's Furniture in Rocky Mount.
That was 40 years ago.
Hardee got his start in the furniture business working with his father-in-law at a furniture store.

Spring Hope man charged with gunfire into vehicle

A Spring Hope man made his initial appearance in court this week and is slated to appear in court in the summer to face road rage charges in an incident near the Franklin County line.
No injuries were reported.
John David Davis, 38, was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and felony discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle...

Rocky Mount juvenile injured in weekend shooting

Rocky Mount Police are investigating a weekend shooting that left a 15-year-old injured.
Police responded around 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 17 to a shooting with injury in the 500 block of Clyde Street. When officers arrived, they located a 15-year-old juvenile who sustained a graze wound to the head.

Ms. Rachel Joyner, Nash County's Clerk of Superior Court for 50 years, and before that Assistant to the Clerk of Superior Court for 16 years.
If you've ever had the pleasure to spend any personal time with Ms. Joyner, you know that any conversation with her leaves you with the opportunity to be a better person.

Local man inducted into "Forever Family"

A West Mount Ruritan Club member was surprised last week to learn he was the most recent inductee into the Ruritan Forever Family.
Robert E. "Bob" Alford was presented the Ruritan Forever recognition by past Ruritan National President and West Mount Ruritan member Wayne Outlaw.
"Ruritan Forever is a Ruritan National Program which allows the recipient to make a positive contribution to our great organization in perpetuity," Outlaw said.

Barbara Jones chooses to kayak to fight cancer.
Jones recently finished up a 209-mile paddle, which she completed over eight days.
This is the 10th year for the event, Hope Floats North Carolina, and Jones has been participating for the last four years.
