Businesses and companies weren't the only affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many social and civic clubs came to a screeching halt. The Rocky Mount Toastmasters Club #8957 however quickly regrouped and began hosting its monthly meetings virtually and installed a new Board, hosted an open house, welcomed new members and became an award winning club!

This photo was found in The Nashville Graphic's July 1970 archive. We're not sure what the event was, however it does appear some sort of celebration was taking place with ice cold Pepsi on the menu.

A Rocky Mount woman was sentenced recently to twenty-four (24) months imprisonment and ordered to pay $229,000 in restitution for committing conspiracy to prepare and file false tax returns.
According to court documents, Priscilla Evans, 65 years old, conspired with others to file false tax returns for the 2011 through 2016 tax years for clients of Community Tax Services LLC located in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

The American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society have teamed up this June to encourage people across the country to Give Blood to Give Time and help ensure loved ones have the strength and support they need as they undergo cancer treatment.
According to the American Cancer Society, many patient visits and procedures were forced to delay or cancel early in the pandemic to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19. With procedures resuming, blood donations are critical for cancer treatments.

Rules regarding the use of drones was one of two policies the Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) Board of Education Policy Committee approved this week. They both will be recommended to the full board at their next meeting in June. If finally adopted by the board, the school system's drone policy will be in addition to state law already established by the N.C. General Assembly. Tyler and Sarah Joyner Payne of Morehead City, NC announce the birth of their daughter, Marley Jordan Payne. She was born March 29, 2021 at Cartaret Health Care in Morehead City. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 21 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Thomas and Melissa Joyner of Rocky Mount. Maternal great-grandparents are Hank and Linda Bennett of Wilson.

The University of Mount Union has announced that Christopher Pietryk, of Nashville, has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2021 semester.
Pietryk was one of 644 students named to the Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, students must have completed at least 12 credit hours of traditionally graded coursework while achieving a grade point average of 3.550 or better with no letter grade below a B.

The class of 2020 has graduated from the 84th North Carolina School of Banking (NCSB). NCSB is one of the oldest state banking association banking schools in the nation. The curriculum is oriented to expand the skills and abilities of middle managers and prospective managers.
Bankers who enroll in the school spend a week each August for four consecutive years to receive training in a college setting.

Elizabeth Alford of Nashville has been named to Southern New Hampshire University's Winter 2021 President's List. The winter term runs from January to May.
Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above are named to the President's List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits; undergraduate day students must earn 12 credits in fall or spring semester, and online students must earn 12 credits in either EW1 & EW2, EW3 & EW4, or EW5 & EW6.

Southern Gospel songwriter, Phil Cross, tells a great story about growing up in a small northwestern Georgia town. One of his neighbors - a pastor as I recall - had a small AM radio transmitter in his home. Every morning, he would awaken early, turn the transmitter on, and deliver his sunrise sermon to his listeners. He would always begin with "Hello world". Cross later reflected on that memory.

There's a story in the Bible about an 8 year old boy who becomes King. His name was Josiah. He was a young lad who, "did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left." (2 Kings 22:2).
Years later, Josiah gave instructions for there to be a remodel of the temple and upon the remodel, Hilikiah the High Priest, found the Book of the Law. They had lost it. In the temple.

This past Sunday was Memorial Day. Peachtree celebrated by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing The Star-Spangled Banner. It was a beautiful tribute to all those that paid the ultimate price to protect us.

The Cherry Hill concert series will resume its annual outstanding student concert on Sunday, June 6th at 3:00 PM. Dr. Margaret Evans of Meredith College will present several of her most promising students in a program that features Chopin, Khachaturian, Liszt, Haydn, Bach, Von Weber, Handel, Scott Joplin, and other favorite composers.

Behrend, out of Erie, Pa., got off to a quick 2-0 lead in the first off Bishop starter CJ DiBenedetto (5-3).

CHARLOTTE -- The No. 15-ranked North Carolina State University baseball team (30-17) came up short in a tightly-contested Atlantic Coast Conference Championship title game with Duke (32-20), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Truist Field Downtown Charlotte.
The loss snapped a 67-game streak of the Wolfpack suffering a shutout, as the last time came on May 24, 2019 against Florida State in the ACC Championship (11-0 result).

ZEBULON - The Carolina Mudcats capped a six-game sweep of the visiting Kannapolis Cannon Ballers after taking both games of Sunday's diamond doubleheader 5-0 and 9-5 at Five County Stadium.
Brendan Murphy tossed a complete game shutout in game one and Joe Gray Jr. hit a go-ahead grand slam while homering in both games as the Mudcats won their sixth straight contest.
