A 2021 Nash Central High School graduate passed away Monday due to an accidental firearm discharge.
The Nashville Police Department responded to a call for service at Wheeless Drive Monday at approximately 1:12 pm for a reported deceased male.

A Bailey man who was charged with drug offenses in 2019 was sentenced on Wednesday to 151 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the distribution of crack cocaine in the Nash and Wilson County area.

A Rocky Mount man was sentenced to 120 months in prison for stealing ammunition and firearms in Elm City, North Carolina. Cecil Terrance Reams, 48, entered his guilty plea on June 8, 2021.
According to court documents and other information presented in court, Reams, his co-defendant, Brandon Shane Reams, 42, and another male subject, broke into a residence in Elm City, North Carolina, in the early morning hours of August 29, 2018.

Last week, I read a news story about a man who swallowed a cellphone and had to have it surgically removed.
I'll be the first to admit that when I see social media posts featuring eastern North Carolina barbecue or various types of ice cream, I might be drawn closer to my screen, but I have yet to lick or swallow my phone.

This week's Backward Glance photo brought a smile to my face but also left me a bit melancholy.
Dr. L.A. High was our family doctor throughout my childhood and teen years up until his retirement.
I recall him visiting our home on a few occasions as a house call for medical care.

Sunday Pastor Gene presented a Patriot's Day Service honoring the memory of all those lost and injured on September 11, 2001. During the September 11 attacks in 2001, 2,977 people were killed, 19 hijackers committed murder-suicide, and more than 6,000 others were injured. The immediate deaths included 265 on the four planes (including the terrorists), 2,606 in the World Trade Center and in the surrounding area, and 125 at the Pentagon.

When we lived in Georgia, there was an article in the "Faith and Values" section of Atlanta Journal-Constitution that I read in sheer astonishment.

The Red Oak Classic Tractor and Car Show at Ennis Park had a great weekend! Participants enjoyed the car and tractor show, power parade, food, music, vendors, exhibits, and more while also enjoying the beautiful weather. Supplies of extra large and medium were fairly light, while large were mostly moderate to meet a fairly good demand. The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, September 09, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 169.72 for Extra Large, 163.57 for Large, 98.53 for Medium, and 82.00 for Small eggs.

KENLY - Five months ago, the Nash Central Bulldogs traveled to North Johnston for a football game that saw NCHS put together one of its finest offensive performances of the Spring 2021 campaign.

BUNN -- Coming into Tuesday's Big East Conference volleyball showdown at Bunn, Nash Central had yet to lose a match -- and had dropped only two sets -- during its prolific start to the 2021 season.
But things were about to get interesting for the Lady Bulldogs beginning Tuesday as they were set to begin a 48-hour gauntlet featuring key Big East matches against long-time Franklin County powers Bunn and Louisburg.

STANHOPE -- The Southern Nash Firebirds improved to 3-0 with a 51-26 win at home last Friday over the South Granville Vikings, who dropped to 1-3.
It appeared the Birds would start really well with a 66-yard return for Leo Jones to start the game and give Southern Nash the ball inside the Vikings' 10-yard line, but a fumble on third down and goal ended those hopes.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School's boys soccer program experienced a COVID hiatus early in the season -- and the Bulldogs have been trying to play catch-up ever since in the always-competitive Big East Conference.
Central opened its slate in August with a loss to former Eastern Plains Conference rival North Pitt, and then had to sit out for two weeks due to COVID.

ZEBULON -- Carolina's Noah Campbell drove in two runs with a two-run double in the first, but the Down East Wood Ducks went on to score five unanswered runs the rest of the way while defeating the Mudcats 5-2 in Carolina's 2021 home finale on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.
Carolina (65-49) led 2-0 after getting Campbell's RBI double in the first, but the Wood Ducks (68-46) went on to tie the score with a two-run home run from Randy Florentino in the second stanza of action.
