NASHVILLE - Nash County's Elementary Schools will now have their own full-time, full-day school resource officers, after a $500,000 request was made to Nash County commissioners at their Dec. 8 meeting. It resulted in a 5-2 split vote of approval.
Steve Ellis, superintendent, appeared before the board to make the request, which initially appeared as an "information only" item on the agenda.
Ellis, thanking commissioners for their "continued partnership and commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and community," said he was there to ask for support to complete full funding to cover full-time SROs in each elementary school.

NASHVILLE - Town leaders have given a conditional nod for development of a new commercial park planned to hold nine commercial lots, each with its own shell building.
The Bailee Commercial Park, under TTL Development LLC, would encompass the south 17.5 acres of the town's West Nashville Commerce Park along Cooke Road.

Nashville's Children Celebration and Bicycle Parade has been a tradition in Nashville for more than three decades. On Saturday, youngsters arrived in downtown Nashville Saturday afternoon excited and ready to march and ride in their very own parade. In addition to the parade, free children's activities were available and photos with Santa afterwards.

SPRING HOPE - A plan to remove iron from town wells, following up on an agreement made in 2022, has just been signed off on by project engineers, with commissioners voting to approve a contract task order at their Dec. 1 meeting.
A task order between the town and L.E. Wooten & Company, consulting engineers, puts a completion date of April 2026 for the first phase of well improvements, specifically targeted at "iron sequestering." The cost for that is $35,000, a portion of the $185,000 total project cost.

NASHVILLE - The long-contended issue of raising the year-end retention bonus for the classified workers of Nash County Public Schools has been settled after a split school board vote Dec. 4- but it was passed as a "one time only" event.
Board of Education (BOE) members voted to give full-time classified workers - which include bus drivers, bus monitors, mechanics, teacher assistants, cafeteria workers and custodians - a $500 retention bonus at the end of the school year in May, with part-time workers to receive $250.

NASHVILLE - A 50-year-old Nashville man, Johnny Garris, was still hospitalized Tuesday in serious condition with severe injuries after being struck by an unidentified hit-and-run driver near the 1000 block of Birchwood Drive on December 1st.
The Nashville Police Department is offering a reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the driver of the suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored full size SUV.

NASHVILLE- The stable outside 104 W. Washington Street is built with the star on top, and now all that's left is for it to come to life this Saturday and Sunday with a Live Nativity, an annual custom for the Carnahan family for the last eight years.
Acting as Mary, Joseph, an angel, wise men and shepherds will be members of the Trail Life Troop and the American Heritage Girls. Ken Carnahan, the property owner, leads the high school troop, while Will Funderburg, Momeyer Mayor, leads the middle schoolers.
