ROCKY MOUNT - Richard "Rick" Edward Godwin, age 80, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026. Born in Nash County on January 12, 1946, he was the son of the late Edward Gray Godwin and Olivia Frazier Godwin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ann Johnson Godwin; his brothers, Manley Gray Godwin and Marlton "Al" Godwin and his sister, Jane Godwin Winstead.
Rick is survived by his son, Derrick Godwin and wife, Ashley, of Nashville; his daughter, Lindsay Godwin Hill and husband, Tim, of Tarboro; five grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held April 29, 2026 at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, with Pastor Steve Webb and Pastor Matthew Mayo officiating.
Burial will be Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Erwin Memorial Park, 506 W A St, Erwin, NC 28339.
