Sorority celebrates 75 years of service
Sorority celebrates 75 years of service

On April 4, 2022, the Rocky Mount Alumnae Chapter (RMAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. observed its 75th anniversary. The platinum anniversary will be celebrated with an array of community service projects and will culminate with a virtual 75th Anniversary program on April 9 at 4 p.m. via the chapter's social media platforms.
To recognize this milestone, the anniversary theme is "Anchored in Service... Preparing RMAC for the Next 75 Years."

Hurry! Festival deadlines approaching!

The Nashville Chamber of Commerce Blooming Festival Committee is wrapping up final details for this year's event which will be held May 6-7.
After a two-year pause due to COVID-19, planners are excited to bring back the downtown festival.
Coordinators are encouraging anyone wanting to participate in the parade, sponsor flags, or apply for a craft vendor spot to do so as soon as possible as deadlines for all are near.

Nashville shoots for new grant for Junction project

Nashville's Town Council is hoping grant funding could broaden the scope of plans for The Nashville Junction and the Farmers Market.
Council members approved submitting a grant application on Tuesday night at the council's regular meeting.
The grant, a Rural Transformation Grant, will assist the town in covering the costs associated with the Nashville Junction and the Farmers Market, including the parking area, pavilion/stage area, sidewalks and a sound barrier.

Local ramp builders receive chamber award

A group that build and install handicap ramps for Nash County residents in need received the 2022 Distinguished Citizen Award.
The Nashville Chamber of Commerce bestowed the honor upon Community Christian Services March 31 at the 30th Annual Distinguished Citizen ceremony held at Nash Arts Center.

County departments ask for staff increase

Nash County department heads are calling for the need of more employees and reclassification of existing positions.
They presented the position requests to commissioners at the annual budget retreat held March 23.
Sandi Vick, information technology director of the county's information technology (IT) department, said the department needs an information technology specialist.

Nash County Chief Deputy chosen as police chief for Fuquay-Varina

Nash County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Brandon Medina is headed to another county with a new role.
Medina will now serve as police chief for the Fuquay-Varina Police Department.
He was a chief deputy at the Nash County Sheriff's Office for the last seven years, since December 2014.

EGGCITING SATURDAY!

Eggciting Saturday will be celebrated on April 9th at Stoney Creek Environmental Park in Nashville.
Nashville Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources will kick off egg hunts at 10 a.m. followed by music, games, Easter Bunny photos, vendors, interactive science stations and more. Three egg hunts will be held: 0-4 years, 5-8 years, 9-12 years. Two prize baskets will be given out to each age group.

Sheriff asks for more staff and grant writer

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone urges the need for more staff to help keep the sheriff's office running efficiently and to cope with crime.
He said the office needs six new deputy sheriff positions as a result of county growth and having to consistently cover cases in other areas such as Rocky Mount.
"You got construction in the southern end of this county that was growing in record number.

Pillows for kidney dialysis patients

The Nash County 4-H Sew What Club made pillows for kidney dialysis patients at their March 24 meeting. Last year, youth made 54 pillows and this year, youth were able to exceed that number and make 56 pillows. The pillows were given to Jennifer Daniels, manager of the Kidney Dialysis Center.
