ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central High School fell just short in its attempt to claim yet another Wells Fargo Conference Cup in the Eastern Plains Conference during the 2020-21 school year.
The Bulldogs were edged out by Farmville Central by a narrow 50-48.5 margin for the top spot in the EPC.

NASH COUNTY -- In the final year of the Big East Conference in its latest incarnation, the winner of the league's annual Wells Fargo Conference Cup standings was Wilson Fike High School.
The Golden Demons secured 153.5 total points to edge the 149 registered by the Southern Nash High School Firebirds.

ZEBULON - Felix Valerio matched a franchise record with four doubles, Mike Wilson hit a two-run home run and Zavier Warren, Noah Campbell and Darrien Miller each had three hits as the Carolina Mudcats' offense exploded for 20 hits in a 13-1 baseball series finale victory versus the Cannon Ballers on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

Two face drug charges

The Nash County Sheriff's Office arrested two people for drug possession both of whom have multiple pending charges in Nash County.
Lacey Jay Mills Gonzales of Rocky Mount was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia (white residue), possession of drug paraphernalia (marijuana residue).

Town, developer make compromise

The Nashville Junction is moving forward, as Nashville's Town Council voted in favor of an inducement agreement related to the project.
The inducement agreement will include a few changes, however, as Michael Hurt, of Hurt, LLC, agreed to donate the parking area, pavilion and grassy area back to the town once construction is complete.
The request was made by Councilwoman Kate Burns.

NC Governor Roy Cooper visited his hometown last Thursday to applaud a private-public partnership vaccine clinic hosted at Nashville's McDonald's in conjunction with the Nash County Health Department.
Nash County Health Director Bill Hill thanked everyone involved organizing the event and thanked Governor Cooper for his visit.

Nash County manager announces retirement
Nash County manager announces retirement

Nash County Manager Zee Lamb announced his upcoming retirement at the Board of Commissioners meeting Monday morning.
In his monthly report to the board, Lamb reflected on commissioner Mary Wells who recently passed away. "She told me at the last meeting that she was going to go out when I went out as manager. She was going to retire at the same time. Unfortunately, she didn't make it," he said.

Masks required at all Nash County schools

In spite of a group of parents who fervently addressed the board for thousands in agreement to make masks optional this school year, the Nash County Board of Education voted 6-5 to make masks mandatory.
The six board members who voted in favor of making masks mandatory for all were Evelyn Bulluck, Sharonda Thomas Bulluck, Doneva Chavis, Reginald Silver, William Sharpe, and LaShawnda Washington.
