School lines to be redrawn for 2013-14
The Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (NRMS) student attendance zones will be redrawn to take effect in the 2013-14 school year due to reduce overcrowded schools.
The board approved the recommendations of the administration at their meeting last Monday night, which sets in motion the work of Operations Research and Education Laboratory (ORED) to provide assistance in creating attendance zones according to the system’s goals. More ...

Nashville launches advertising campaign
The Town of Nashville is partnering with local businesses to try and bring outsiders to Downtown Nashville.

Ward Drug Company sells prescription side of business
Ward Drug Company of Nashville will soon transfer its prescription business to CVS Pharmacy and change its name to Ward Specialty Pharmacy.
Ward Drug Owner Gary Glisson said the change is mainly the result of market pressures.

Budget woes to continue for Nash-Rocky Mount
Nash-Rocky Mount Schools will continue to face budget challenges in the upcoming year, Superintendent Dr. Anthony Jackson told Nash County Commissioners at a joint meeting last Tuesday evening.

The Ladies Auxiliary Veteran of Foreign War, Post 2057’s Stars in Uniform Christmas Tree went up on November 18 at Golden East Mall in Rocky Mount. Engineering brought to life for local students
A group of middle school students were sitting at the Gateway Technology Center on the campus of Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount after school designing and creating their own straw rockets.
They couldn’t wait to test them.
“Their enthusiasm for building straw rockets was infectious. They were like sponges,” said Cyndi Carpenter, the instructor for the program.  “Anything I asked them to do, they couldn’t wait to try.” More ...

As a general rule, Farm Bills are 5 years in length.  A new Farm Bill is scheduled to begin October 2012, covering FY 2013 through September 2017.  So as the U.S. Congress writes the next Farm Bill, I suggest these major components boldly be at the center.

The Halifax Resolves Chapter of the North Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution (NCSSAR) has selected Cadet Kayla Simmons of the Southern Nash AFJROTC as the winner of the chapter’s Enhanced JROTC Contest.
