Police investigate gang graffiti at N. Elementary
Nashville's Police Department is investigating possible gang graffiti left in several spots at Nashville Elementary School last week.

The graffiti, also known as tagging, was allegedly done during a seven-day period, Assistant Police Chief Lt. Ray Goodwin said. The words, "Black Mob" were painted on the school's gymnasium in black spray paint. "BM" was also written on the school's sidewalks in chalk. Goodwin said although the graffiti is a gang name, parents and teachers of students should feel safe. More ...

Castalia holds vision forums
The Castalia public forums were well attended as nearly 50 residents and nearby land-owners came to share their visions for Castalia's future. The town board and planning board jointly hosted the three meetings which were led by Dennis Patton, Director of Planning for the Upper Coastal Plains Council of Government and Jim Bradshaw, former Wilson Town Manager. Meetings were held at the Castalia Town Hall on January 18, 22, and 23rd. More ...

Nashville Opry's 29th year is a success
Elsie Clark would have been proud. The 29th annual Elsie Clark Memorial Nashville Opry brought out over 200 attendees and was deemed a success.

Mary Wells, chairperson of the event, said the event served as a great memorial for Elsie. "It was (Elsie's) brainchild and we thought it was fitting we do this for her," Wells said.  More ...

Kindergarten registration is set for Nash County youth
Kindergarten registration is underway for Nash County youth. Children who are five-years-old on or before October 16, 2007 are eligible to register.

Registration will be held for Benvenue Elementary and Williford Elementary School on Monday, February 5. On Tuesday, February 6, registration will be held for Baskerville Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Middlesex Elementary, Spring Hope Elementary, Englewood Elementary, Nashville Elementary and Swift Creek Elementary. More ...

She had watched the Bunn brothers grow up and wanted a front row seat during their performance. Perley C. Hurdle, 89, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Guardian Care of Rocky Mount. He was born in Gates County, NC, August 3, 1917. He was the son of the late Elisha N. Hurdle, Jr. and Clara Jones Hurdle. He was welder and a blacksmith for Seaboard Coastline Railroad. Perley was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
