UP HE GOES. Nash Central High School's Colin Johnson participated in the Boys Pole Vault event during the recent Class 1/2-A State Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held in Winston-Salem.
COLIN IN THE CLUTCH

WINSTON-SALEM -- Colin Johnson's goal is to compete in the pole vault event in college -- and his recent performances may have raised the eyebrows of some potential future coaches on that level.
Johnson, a senior standout at Nash Central High School, was able to qualify for the Class 1/2-A State Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held at the JDL Fast Track facility in Winston-Salem.

Former Nash Central High School boys basketball coach Renny Taylor has been a fixture at Bulldogs\' home games this season -- and he was in the stands along with his wife during his former team\'s contest recently against Rocky Mount.

If someone drew up a scouting report for Renny Taylor, those would be the intangibles listed on the list as Taylor has excelled in all phases of his work life during his career at Nash Central High School.

RED OAK -- Travis Gamache and Carson Ashman have been cornerstones of Northern Nash's recent baseball renaissance -- both on and off the field.
Certainly, both players are blessed with talent -- and have been teammates since their days at Red Oak Middle School.
Ashman has developed into a top-notch outfielder for the Fighting Knights -- and also gives Coach Joey Keefe an always-welcomed left-handed bat.

Bishops pick up victory

NEWPORT NEWS, VA -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team rolled to a big 14-4 non-conference neutral site win over Susquehanna University (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
The Bishops took advantage of five SU errors while totaling 14 runs on 10 hits in the win en route to improving to 3-3 on the year.

GREENSBORO -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College men's basketball program rolled to its 10th conference win of the season last Saturday as they routed Greensboro College 92-71 on the road to clinch the #2 seed in the East Division.
Wesleyan improved to 18-7 overall and 10-4 in the division.

ROCKY MOUNT -- Shane Garrett grew up in Franklin County and competed in baseball for the Town of Louisburg Parks and Recreation Department.
Now, Garrett is coming home for the next two years as he has signed a letter-of-intent to continue his baseball career at Louisburg College.
Garrett, who has been a member of the Faith Christian School diamond program in Nash County for the past three years, chose Louisburg College over several different options that he had to compete on the collegiate level.
