If you haven’t gotten the chance to see Pluggie, you should make it a point to go check him out. He’s pretty cool and even though he may be meant for kid’s educational enjoyment, I think adults will probably like him too. Pluggie was certainly a worthwhile purchase and has made a positive impact on the department’s fire prevention and life safety programs.

Sadly, some will die. WHAT? Let's look at some hard facts. Sometimes homeless pets at Shelters are euthanized. At Nash, it is by humane injection, as you would when you take your pet to the vet. Sometimes it is for space, they literally run out of a place for all. County Shelters have unlimited intakes. It isn't like a private facility where they can pick and choose. Sometimes euthanasia is for behavior. There are no trainers (rehabilitators) at County Shelters. The longer a pet is at a Shelter, the more likely that they will become stressed and react.

677.4-H, library, revitalization and more
I got an unexpected treat on Saturday, my first chance to attend a Nash County 4-H event, the 2nd Annual Gala held at the Ag Center in Nashville. There was food, honorees, a silent auction that raised thousands of dollars and high level entertainment — from children through professional level. It was nice to see so many folks in attendance as supporters, but what blew my mind was how first-class the affair was and how  many folks work so hard to make 4-H a great place for youth.

NONE DIED... I hate starting out like that, but happy for the message. None of the dogs and cats we promoted died this week. Sadly we cannot save them all and there are a lot we aren’t allowed to promote (ferals, etc.)  The only way to stop most of this is prevention.  Someday, we hope that someone will start a cat group that focuses on TNR.
