LIZZIE RUSSELL CARTER GIBSON
November 30, 1913 – February 16, 2008
Lizzie Russell Carter Gibson, 94, of the Darlington community (Littleton) died Feb. 16, 2008 at her home. Funeral services will be held today (Feb. 20) at Darlington Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Newton officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Enfield.

Mrs. Gibson was born Nov. 30, 1913 in Halifax County, the daughter of the late Jack and Lizzie Viola Stallings Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Gibson; one son, Randy Gibson; a twin brother, John Carter; brothers, Charlie, Ben and Ed Carter; a sister, Carrie Loy; and brother-in-law, Raymond Jenkins.

Mrs. Gibson was a loving and faithful member of Darlington Baptist Church and served the community well.

Survivors include a son, Herbert Wayne Gibson of Charlotte; two daughters, Carolyn Gibson Briggs of Red Oak and Vivian Gibson Hurst of Roanoke Rapids; a daughter-in-law, Sue Gibson of Charlotte; one sister, Mary Jane Jenkins of Littleton; grandchildren, Phillip Briggs, Rebecca Worrell and husband Jeremy, Wendy Elliott and husband Tom, Marty Hurst, Randell Gibson, Chris Gibson and wife Angela, Mark Gibson and wife Kristin, Brad Gibson and wife Jenny, and Christie Briggs; great-grandchildren, Whitney Briggs, Truitt Briggs, Scott Gibson, Anna Cate Gibson, Sidney Rae Gibson, and Landyn Cade Worrell.

Special thanks to her caregivers, Shirley Jenkins and Shaneka Mills.

The family received friends on Feb. 19 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hockaday Funeral Home and other times at Mrs. Gibson’s home.
