Nash considers Voluntary Ag Districts NASHVILLE – County commissioners are looking at possibly adopting an ordinance which would add Nash County to the 65 counties in North Carolina that have Voluntary Ag Districts. The Nash County Cooperative Extension Office and Planning Department recently held two informal informational meetings regarding Ag Districts. Ag forum highlights farm research, challenges The first annual Agriculture Forum at Nash Community College Feb. 29 drew a crowd of over one hundred, including farmers, ag industry partners, legislators and educators. Presented by the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the NC Cooperative Extension Nash County Center and Quality Equipment, and sponsored by Nash Community College and Farm Bureau of Nash County, the forum featured speakers on a variety of topics, offered a venue for networking, and had a panel discussion about farming issues. 505.	Commissioner seats contested in election At least two Nash County Commissioners will face opposition in the upcoming elections. Filing for primary elections will end at noon on Friday, February 26. Four commissioner seats are up for election this year. Fred Belfield, Wayne Outlaw, Mary Wells and Robbie Davis have all filed for re-election. Last week, Charlotte Mizelle and W. Douglas Starr, filed for the seats held by Outlaw and Wells, respectively. Regional hazard mitigation plan updated for Nash Updated hazard mitigation plans for the Nash-Edgecombe-Wilson County region have been submitted to the state, with Nash County along with Nashville, Castalia and Bailey, Sharpsburg having new goals to work towards.The draft plan, 358 pages long, was unveiled during an online public meeting May 1 and is designed to help counties and their communities to "identify hazard risks, understand vulnerability, and develop ways to proactively mitigate risk," according to the website, which can be found online at https://www.new-hmp.com. 507.	2007 YEAR IN REVIEW JANUARY • Nashville’s Town Council repeals sections of the town’s animal ordinance. The ordinance was a replica of the county’s ordinance so the town’s attorney suggested taking out all parts that referenced the county. The remaining ordinances were placed under a separate chapter titled, “Animals.” The issue was brought up during the ongoing legal dispute between the town and Adele Maynard regarding her dogs.
