On the contrary, we noted that the oral transmission of histories in ancient Near Eastern culture was not only a very serious and highly structured undertaking, but to corrupt the oral transmission of Jesus stories was to corrupt their own identity.

It took a lot of revving in the alley and standing on the clutch at a certain angle to prevent a choke-off, the worst humiliation for a teenage male in the 1980s.

5470.Peachtree Community News
Sunday Morning turned out to be sunny and bitterly cold. Our expectations of snow, which the weather man had been predicting for about a week, were crushed. One fellow remarked that he had made a special trip to the store just to purchase sugar so that he could make his snow cream. He was sorely disappointed that he didn’t have any snow so that he could stir up the delicacy. Wonder how many people can recall making snow cream?

5472.Amusement parks can bring the kid out in you
As I stepped into the elevator, I felt the unsteadiness of the floor beneath me. The operator looked like a villain from a James Bond movie. We ascended quickly, leaving the solid, safe Earth behind. When we reached the top and the doors opened, the breeze came through the elevator and created a sense of motion at the top.

5479.Spring Hope residents contest violation fees
SPRING HOPE - The issues of unapproved shipping containers, blighted properties and zoning violation fines go hand-in-hand for the town of Spring Hope, with residents so afflicted appearing at the Jan. 5 board of commissioners meeting to ask for help- or forgiveness- for their fines. Their answer about fines was the same: to waive them not possible - because of state statute - but it is possible for the town not to pursue the debt, with one option an enforceable lien on the property.

5480.A pinch of chew was scarier than Ouija!
Let me take you back to a dark and stormy night of my childhood, right around Halloween. I think I was in fifth or sixth grade. My best friend Kelly invited a few friends over to his house for a sleepover. But this was no ordinary sleepover: Kelly was going to fulfill a "lifelong dream" of having a "real séance."Me: You know that stuff's not real. And, it's like devil stuff.

It’s been a few weeks since my kids — Holly, 8; Kent 3; and Lowell 1 — filled this space. That in itself is remarkable since enough things happen around the house to write a column each week. Of course, much of what goes on has to be censored for content, disgustability and the fact that my wife has to approve all columns. What follows is the most recent publishable material:

5496.Peachtree Community News
This Labor Day week-end was the time for the last fling of summer. Many Peachtree folks were away at the beach, in the mountains or just relaxing before school begins in earnest. But there was good attendance at church, including several visitors. Pastor Whitehouse delivered Part II of his sermon, “It’s Going to Cost You Everything”. This was based on the scripture passage from Romans 13: 8-10. He pointed out that religion is empty if it does not compel you to reach out to those who are hurting around you. His final point was that Love is God’s medicine for the world.

5500.Coffee really could in fact be a lifesaver
It's been a classic love story, really.I'll never forget the moment we met. An early winter storm had blown into the area and paralyzed the state from here to Raleigh. We had a baby daughter to worry about, so I kept our generator running. This required me to go outside, add fuel, kick the machine, and curse every three hours or so.
