4817.What is your personal definition of success?
Some time back, I had a conversation with a fellow who at first glance seemed ready to put his arms tightly around life. When asked what his dream was, what he wanted the most in the world, he was quick to answer: "I want to be successful!" He grinned broadly, confident that he had given me an answer unlike those that might be expected from his peers, answers that might focus on specific, material things. But, never being one to let even the simplest of answers go unchallenged, I pressed: "Good. What does being successful mean?"

"He didn't have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at Him, no appearance that we should desire Him." If that's the case, then where did we get that picture of Jesus that hangs over some of our mantles? While there is no biblical support for the picture that our minds conjure up when we think about Jesus, some theologians claim that it came from eyewitness accounts.

The trip started off fine.My son Lowell and I had managed to talk our way into a stop at a popular golf store in Raleigh on the way to the western part of the state to visit with family. After that, we started thinking about lunch at one of our favorite stops, a smokehouse in Graham. But then we hit a patch of highway around Efland that was sort of like rumble strips and an old washboard dirt road, except not as quite as smooth. There was a thump.

Sending your first kid off to school is just as traumatizing for the parent as for the kid. I know because I just had to do it. Corbin started a little two-year-old school program recently. It’s two days a week for a few hours. I was all excited about September  3 at first. I couldn’t wait to get Corbin off to school. Because our kids stay at home with their daddy during the day, they have some separation anxiety.

I’m back, and it feels good to be writing again. I wish my Daddy would let me have this space more often. He looks like he needs a break, all the time. I guess when you get to be a senior citizen like him, that’s what happens. I don’t think he likes it when people always tell him how tired he looks. Sometimes, when people talk to him, I’m pretty sure he falls asleep.
