The weather for Easter Sunday was sunny but chilly.  The worship at Peachtree was a glorious celebration of the Risen Lord, Christ Jesus.  Sanctuary flowers were given by the Reid Vick Family in memory of their loved ones.  Those remembered were Reid and Avis Vick, Randall, Cleon, Furman and Linda Vick Nozolina.

Due to the past inclement weather, Red Oak Baptist Church will be extending the deadline for greeting card fronts for St. Jude's Ranch for Children. They will now accept cards through Sunday, January 30 and then they will be shipped to St. Jude's. The youth of Red Oak Baptist Church will be going on a ski trip on Friday, January 28 following school. Pray for them as they travel.

Red Oak Baptist Church is currently collecting card fronts as a ministry to St. Jude's Ranch for Children. All card fronts are acceptable except those from Hallmark, American Greetings, and Disney due to copyright laws. Card fronts will be collected through January 16. St. Jude's Ranch for Children repurposes these fronts into new cards as a fundraiser for the organization. The organization helps abused and at-risk children, young adults, and families.

Leroy Minton, Sr., Savada Minton, wife and Leroy Minton, son, honor the memory of Leroy Minton for his dedicated and loyal service to his family and his country. He served in Word War II and the Korean Crisis, between March 4, 1942 and Nov. 7, 1957. During this time he earned 12 medals.

Nash County 4-H held its First Annual Gala on Monday night, naming four long-time supporters to its Hall of Fame. Peggy and Joe Enroughty, along with Wilmer A. “Sonny” Brantley and Manly Wilder, were all honored as the first recipients to the Nash County 4-H Hall of Fame. Barbara High Tyre, 4-H Gala Committee Chair, presented the Hall of Fame Award for the Enroughty’s. Tyre said Peggy Enroughty always had a smile on her face and was always willing to do what was needed for 4-H.

County reactivates Sheriff's P-cards Nash County Commissioner Chair Robbie Davis said he hopes to clear some things up in regards to the Sheriff's Office on Monday at the board's regular meeting. Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone received an email on Monday, December 23 from Nash County Finance Director Donna Wood stating non-essential items would not be approved and P-cards would be inactivated. Nash County Sheriff's Office investigates shooting The Nash County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday morning during a birthday party. Deputies responded to a residence at 11260 Cedar Lake Court in Middlesex around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, December 28. Upon arriving, deputies were informed that a birthday party had been going on when an altercation broke out between several people at the party.

356.Locals donate pillow cases to Ronald McDonald House
Marguerite Baker and her granddaughter, Kaitlyn Baker, paid a visit to Greenville this weekend, where they delivered over 100 pillow cases to the Ronald McDonald House. The two sewed 103 pillowcases in honor of Marguerite’s son and Kaitlyn’s uncle, Michael Edward Baker, who died on September 4, 2012 after a battle with stage four pancreatic cancer.

357.Nashville father and son busted for marijuana
A father and son were arrested last week after the Nash County Sheriff’s Office discovered a marijuana growing operation in their homes. A search warrant was executed at 2616 Red Oak Road, Nashville, at the residence of Paul Brantley, Jr. on Friday, October 21. During the search, officers found eight marijuana plants growing in a utility room.

The Banana Slap Jeep Club held its a Jeep Day event on Saturday, March 21 at Mike Keffer Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Rocky Mount. The event raised over $1,500 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation. Pictured is Banana Slap Jeep Club member Rhonda Reid flexing her Jeep on the RTI Ramp, one of several obstacle courses behind the Mike Keffer dealership. This obstacle tests how far you can go up the ramp and how much flex your rig has. The club has several obstacle courses members use behind the dealership.

366.Members of Nashville Boys and Girls Club visits Universal Healthcare
Members of the Boys and Girls Club are working on getting more involved in the community. Youth recently visited Universal Healthcare of Nashville to sing Christmas carols to residents and give out handmade Christmas cards. The visit is just the first of several things in store for the club, said Program Assistant Chris Williams. Williams serves as the Program Assistant for youth ages five to 10 at the Nashville Boys and Girls Club.

United Community Ministries (UCM) unveiled North Carolina artist William Mangum’s  26th annual Honor Card recently at a luncheon held in Rocky Mount at the Booker T. Washington Theatre.Members of the organization encouraged citizens to remember those less fortunate this holiday season by purchasing honor cards which funds homeless agencies in thirteen cities across North Carolina including Rocky Mount.

375.Breaking News: Arrest made in quadruple murder case
The Halifax County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the quadruple murder on Fishing Creek Road. Matthew Simms, 25, of Enfield, was arrested on Thursday, October 26 and charged with four counts of murder. Simms is charged with killing James and Janice Harris and James and Peggy Jo Whitley on August 20 while the couples had gathered to play cards at the Harris' home on Fishing Creek Road in the Glenview Community of Halifax County.

376.Spring Hope plans to "Chalk it Up"
SPRING HOPE- The Spring Hope Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its second outdoor sidewalk contest, "Chalk It Up," on Saturday May 2nd. Pam Brantley, commissioner, shared the details at the town's April 6th meeting while sharing that a permit request had been submitted from the Chamber. The inaugural event, held in 2025, had "low turnout," Brantley said, but this year's event has a $100 grand prize as an incentive. The contest, for which chalk will be provided, will be open to participants in four classes: 3rd through 5th grade; 6th through 8th grade; 9th through 12th grade, and adults.

Nash County Commissioners, at their January meeting, approved a resolution honoring the service of long-time Nash County EMS Medical Director Dr. Ted Westover. Westover is retiring with over 20 years of service as the county’s medical director. The Pumpkin Man and his top hand have been named Nash County's Farmer of the Year and this year's next generation farmer.Mike Edwards and Arron Bridges work together at M&H Farms outside Nashville.Edwards raises chickens for Perdue Farms, but is known locally as the Pumpkin Man for his selling gourds around Halloween.

HONORING VETERANS – Mrs. Wilson’s sixth grade Language Arts class at Southern Nash Middle School joined North Nashville Ruritan Club for the annual Veteran’s Day celebration at the school. Each year, students read the novel Under the War Torn Sky. Part of the project after reading the novel is to create Veteran’s Day cards inviting local veterans to the school’s celebration. SPRING HOPE - The town of Louisburg and Franklinton may be supplying new beautification ideas to Spring Hope, with Downtown Development Board members reviewing a few "field trip" observations at their August 18 meeting.Pam Brantley, chair, reported that she had been researching what towns without significant trees downtown do to present their best appearance.Brantley said a favored technique was to draw the eye to good architecture, which she said Louisburg did with hanging flower baskets.

The Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education plan to review the North Carolina 2014-2015 Report Card results at their September 21st meeting. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction released report cards for 2014-2015 last week. The report cards offer up-to-date information about student achievement and attendance, class size, school safety, teacher quality, school technology and other topics for the 28 public schools in Nash County as well as all other school districts across the state.

James Nebson Walker, Sr., 74, passed away Friday, February 1, 2008. He was born November 20, 1933 in Nash County. He was the son of the late John and Annie Walker. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daegon. Jim served in the Air Force and retired as an Air Traffic Controller. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with the family that he loved.

UDC Bethel Heroes Members, Margie Parker Brantley, Donna Boykin and Helen Sharpe recently attended the stone dedication to honor Dick Batchelor and the seven sons of Nathan T. Joyner and his wife Amy Land.  These eight men served in the War Between the States.  Two brothers, Little Berry Joyner and David Joyner gave the ultimate sacrifice of their life to the cause they fought for.

Children and adults celebrated Christmas in a big way Saturday, November, 15 at the North Roanoke Baptist Association office in Dortches.  Everyone joined together to make and pack “red boxes” for the ladies at Fountain Correctional Center for Christmas.  Each box was filled with items such as shampoo, deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, bath sponges, chapstick, emery boards, ink pens, writing tablets, candy, bookmarks, tracts, and Christmas cards.
