3603.You can't compare Amazon to local libraries!
Over the weekend, Forbes published an opinion piece by a fella who argued that "Amazon Should Replace Local Libraries to Save Taxpayers Money." When I first came across the headline, I didn't even read it. I just scoffed and thought to myself, "this guy obviously has no clue" and went about my business. But then, I kept seeing the article pop up. Friends were sharing it and talking about it. So I finally read it. I scoffed some more.

3609.Inauguration brings uncertainty and anxiety, as usual
On Friday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as President of the United States. A year ago, I wrote in this space it would never happen, and simply could not envision it as a possibility. Even though I thought that once Barack Obama took Hillary Clinton down she was done for, it seemed inevitable she would be in the White House. As we saw in this part of the world, a lot of folks sure are tore up about it. As a matter of fact, about 50 percent of America is devastated.

We had several dogs returned after being adopted. Why? Because their adopter's dog at home didn't like them. Hmmm. We think it is mostly a problem with introductions. You walk in with a strange dog and your dog goes into protection mode. Who is this stranger invading the home? Will he attack? Will he hurt my family? So immediately the home dog tells them to get out and don't come back.

THE SUN ~ Spring is here and that means rising temperatures. There are obvious things we must do for our pets with the heat. If they are outside, they must have access to water at all times and shade! Also, if you take your dog riding in your vehicle, the sun shine will raise the temperature inside to deadly results. Just as a reminder of the rules, we have published that section of the ordinance below. These, obviously, are the bare minimal required by law.

Living out in the country has its benefits but one of those benefits is certainly not high speed internet. It all depends on how far out in the country you live but in my case, I live pretty far out there. Out my way, we’re still using tin cans and string for telephones. To get a decent television channel, someone has to get on the roof and tin foil is involved. So you can bet, internet is hard to come by out my way.

Over the past years, in this space, I have written good-byes and/or tributes to many of our local heroes as they have passed away. June 16th, the day before Father’s Day, a very precious hero in my life departed this Earth, my father. My father, Oliver Green, or best known all around Nash County as ‘Bum’ Green, was a loving and caring person, always putting his family first. He had a very calm demeanor, always steady as a rock, even while he and mother raised four girls.

Last week, I reminisced in this spot about what life was like in the summer when I was a kid and the things I did to entertain myself. Despite all the technology my family – and many others as well– enjoy, when it comes down to it, kids still like doing the same things, generation after generation: digging holes in the yard, playing with water hoses and confounding adults.

You cannot wait upon God without learning to truly trust Him. And you cannot exercise your hope in Him if you are always given everything immediately (Rom 8:24-25). But when we have only His promise to rely upon--with absolutely no visible evidence of answered prayer--then our faith is put to the test and can grow (2 Cor 5:7).For this purpose, the Lord will intentionally put adverse conditions in our path so we will choose to believe Him rather than focus on our circumstances--which is what usually gets us in the most trouble.
