3004.More personnel cuts not likely for schools this year
Although the final budget from the state indicates a huge cut in non-instructional support, stimulus money will make this cut a “wash,” Nash-Rocky Mount Schools (NRMS) superintendent Rick McMahon told the board at their work session Monday night “I’m optimistic that we’ll be ok as far as personnel, but it’s going to be very tight,” he said. “We won’t be hiring new folks. I’m 75 percent sure that we’re ok. We don’t have to send a single letter of termination to anyone else at this point.” Friday morning, the NRMS administration finally received state budget allocations for this school year but is still waiting to hear how much stimulus money will follow to fill in the huge cuts that have been made. The largest cut to this year’s budget, McMahon said, is $5.1 million from non-instructional support, which includes salaries for about 300 positions, including clerical and custodial staff.

TO CRATE OR NOT TO CRATE....Our answer is YES but... When getting a new dog, it is good to crate until you are sure they won't destroy your home! Dogs aren't born with an innate ability to tell what is wrong or not to chew or play with, but need to be taught, when you are there! Even if you don't use it all the time, it is a good place to keep their dog bed and it can become their own personal den for those times when they need a bit of security, like during a thunderstorm. I like to throw a blanket over ours.

3067.PEACHTREE COMMUNITY NEWS
So much has happened in our world this week. We are still restricted from social contact and I personally feel all of this is absolutely necessary to contain this virus. We have seen sickness on the rise, more people are dying, and violence is past belief. The community fellowship of the church has also been severely interrupted. With all of this around us, we at Peachtree, members, family, and friends met Sunday to praise our Lord for all He does for us, especially during these difficult times. He continues to bless and protest us. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. (Fran).

3068.Goodbye to an old and faithful television
I know you can’t read this, due to you being a television, and in fact, now a dead television, but this is how I deal with loss. I write about it. It was sad the day I came home and got the news. Holly, your faithful friend of 11 years, said a red light was blinking and nothing was happening. I did not panic, thinking you simply needed a reset. After all, you’d survived hurricanes, tornadoes, power surges, lightning strikes – one tough TV.

Three family birthdays in the span of seven days is a tough road to hoe for a man weak of wallet and highly susceptible to temptation.Birthdays are a big time around my house. Last year, as our youngest child reached seven, I started this story talking about his post-bath dance. Lowell was known for gyrating, dancing and singing "uh-huh, uh-huh..." His mom and I claimed victory when he started putting on underwear first. Now as he crosses over into eight, he's hit an awkward age. There's still some "baby" left, but he's flying headlong towards adolescence. In Lowell's case, he has the height of an 11-year-old and is built like a fullback. He has an even more advanced wit, but with wavering logic.

Probably the most frequently asked question I get these days is: “When did you get so much gray hair?” Usually before I can answer, the next statement that follows is, “Oh, yeah, what are your kids up to?” This kind of encounter lets me follow the corporate world of 2009 — I get to downsize my discussions and hope for a bailout. That is because the first question is answered immediately, saving me the cost of a response.
