Brother Bob Watkins welcomed everyone to Sunday School. There were 93 including 3 visitors present. 2 of our visitors were Rev. and Mrs, Jessie Caton. Several years ago he was our interim pastor for a while. We all loved them and I think they like us too. They continue to visit from time to time. Allie Farmer read the Bible verse today. Thank you. Bob’s thought for today was “Footsteps”. “Don’t ask God to guide your footsteps if you are not willing to move your feet.” Scripture that inspires this thought: Proverbs 16:9, “A man’s heart deviseth his ways; But the Lord directeth his steps.”

It's hard to believe we are sitting on the eve of 2016. The one thing I can say for 2015 is that is was a fast year. Looking back through our archives for 2015, the other noticeable thing about the year is that we saw a lot of change in leadership. We rang in the year with a new sheriff, Keith Stone, and 2015 seemed to continue to bring transition forth.Melvia Batts retired after 20 years with Nash County's Social Services, most recently serving as its director. Donna Boone took the helm as the new director Meredith Holland resigned from her post as Executive Director of My Sister's House and we welcomed new director, Cynthia Kornegay.

2670.Kent leaves the teenage hoodlum years behind, but not me
Our son Kent just turned 20 and left those teenage hoodlum years in a cloud of dust. He was never much of a miscreant, but he and his brother Lowell did things like try to talk me into letting them build a moonshine still once.We are now down to one teenager at our house: Lowell. And that kid, the one I used to call The Spare when he was acting up, becomes an adult in just a couple of weeks. Times are changing.

2674.Excitement, disappointment, lessons learned
I know Christmas is near not just because of the calendar.A key indicator has been that my children have made fewer comments about "my future rest home" or my "expanding bald spot." Coincidentally, Wish Lists have been shared with me as Google Docs.It seems like a long way from my Christmas preparations as a child, but really it is not.

2678.Brantley kids take another turn at filling column
It’s been a few weeks since my kids — Holly, 8; Kent 3; and Lowell 1 — filled this space. That in itself is remarkable since enough things happen around the house to write a column each week. Of course, much of what goes on has to be censored for content, disgustability and the fact that my wife has to approve all columns. What follows is the most recent publishable material:

2684.Reader responds to recent letters
Homosexuality has become a very controversial subject. Everyone has an opinion, as you can see by the two previous letters to the editor. I, however, have to agree with Mr. Cary. My Bible tells me that it is a sin, that no one is born homosexual. It is a lifestyle chosen by the individual. Immoral conduct, including homosexuality along with vile wickedness, caused the complete destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. No sign of these two cities has ever been found.
