NASHVILLE - A rezoning request for a new, 72-lot subdivision on Peachtree Hills Road, Spring Hope, was turned down by Nash commissioners Feb. 3, but does not preclude the possibility of a somewhat smaller, scaled-down version at the same location, as permitted under current zoning.L.D. Land Holdings LLC, the current owner of about 129 acres near the Franklin County line on both sides of Peachtree Hills Road and along the south side of Savage Road, requested conditional rezoning from A1 to RA30 for higher-density, single family homes.

2103.Local woman’s apple butter is a tradition
Making apple butter requires a lot of patience and a lot of stirring. But for Nashville resident Anita Howard, the process is a tradition worth holding on to, no matter how long it takes. Howard grew up in east Tennessee and said the tradition of making apple butter was something her grandparents did out of necessity. Her grandparents would make enough apple butter so that they could trade with neighbors for other food items.

Christmas is less than a week away and still, I have yet to do anything to prepare. It seems that in losing someone you love, you tend to want to skip, or even ignore, the holidays. My best friend died in March and the remaining part of 2007 has been a bit of a blur to me. Special occassions have come and gone and I’ve managed to ignore the significance of most of them. But Christmas is just one holiday you can’t ignore.

Thanksgiving is one week away and this Thanksgiving has the ingredients to be an incredible, Spirit filled day if we stay focused on Jesus, our Risen Lamb. A ventured to the left or a look to the right is sure to make everything less than gravy. So, let's put our swords down, drop the rhetoric of how we know everything there is to know about politics and let's give thanks to the God above who has blessed us with every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). To help us in moving forward in the goodness and loving kindness (Titus) of God, here are 10 ways to be thankful this Thanksgiving.

It is always amazing when little ideas – ones that should not work – become huge sensations, offer a valuable service and make their creators incredibly rich. I read something recently where someone said writer's write -- they don't talk about writing, or spend time on social media posting about writing, or think about the romanticism of writing.Even though I had tons of stuff that needed to be written, I'd been putting it off. 2124.Pink and purple, more than just colors
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and it’s an important month to remember because domestic violence happens and it can be happening to someone you know right now. In college, I had a friend who was in a bad relationship. She wouldn’t leave and I never could understand why. Eventually, I found out her relationship wasn’t just bad, it was abusive. The two would get in arguments and in the end, my friend would end up with bruises. Jealousy was one of the issues but simple things could trigger the rage.

There's a lot at stake. NAFTA and granting amnesty for 3 million illegal immigrants in 1986 is a complete failure. Homeland Security is a joke. 2173.Steps to take to prevent being a victim of crime
We as a nation have seen an increase in crimes of opportunity due in part to the state of our economy.  As citizens, you can take steps to reduce the possibility of becoming a victim of these types of crime.  Recently, we have had a few instances where someone entered cars and removed items from them.  These cars were left unlocked and items were left inside.  You should remove all items of value from your car when you park it and make sure to lock the doors.  If you must leave an item inside, it should be hidden so anyone looking inside cannot see it.  You should always take the keys out of your car.  I do not suggest hiding a spare key on the car.  Thieves know that people do this and often look for the spare key.

2183.Sometimes chickens really do “fly the coop!”
Four months ago, Allen brought two chickens home. I wrote in this space about how they were “temporarily” living in my living room, in a dog kennel, while my husband built a chicken coop. Several weeks went by following that column and still, the chickens had no coop. But eventually, they did get moved out of the house and into Allen’s shop.

2192.After 2016's bumpy ride, 2017 ought to be a breeze
I've always been excited about welcoming a new year. There is just something that gets in my head about a fresh start, a clean slate, and a blank calendar that makes me feel hopeful every year.It is sort of like a news sports season -- even the worst teams are undefeated on Opening Day. Making New Year's Resolutions has always been a tradition in this space, but most everyone participates in this hobby. Maybe not everyone writes out a list, but I believe even the most pessimistic among us have prospects on January 1.
