2067.The end of an era: couch goes to the dump
Sunday was a day of mixed feelings. The last surviving piece of furniture from the legendary "Body Oils Collection" was taken out of my house and hauled to the dump.It was a large beige loveseat -- that was the original color, anyway -- and it was long past its better days. It was grungy and torn and sagging, held together in places by zip ties.

2068.Dozier’s Plow Day
The fields around Jimmy Dozier’s house on Old Spring Hope Road looked a little different Saturday. Instead of one tractor quickly moving up and down the rows to plow, teams of horses pulled plows up and down the field nearly all day to do what it takes a tractor to do in one hour. But in the end, the job still got done. The work was all a part of Jimmy Dozier’s Plow Day, a day Dozier said celebrates North Carolina’s heritage.

2069.Wrapping up birthday month, Lowell is two
Birthday month is now over, and I have most certainly done my part to stimulate the economy. Since the next-to-last day of March, we’ve had four birthdays at my house. That means birthday parties, cakes, presents and all the trimmings for my three children and for me, the biggest kid of all — both literally and figuratively. Wrapping up birthday month, appropriately enough, is the baby, Lowell. He turned two this week. Last year, I shared all the joys and events of his first year and while the bar was set awfully high, “Low” managed to come through with a good sequel.

Is it me or has the season of “fall” disappeared from our calendars?  I mean - we just put away the Halloween decorations and whoosh…the weather turned cold.  Now, with the cold weather here and our thoughts directed toward Christmas, it is time to start thinking about holiday safety.  First and foremost I would recommend “Awareness” on everyone’s part.

2089.A Christmas miracle? Or maybe not!
I didn't think I'd been gone out of the house that long. I walked through the kitchen and into the living room and to investigate an odd light just around the corner -- it was a Christmas tree."What in the wide world of sports is going on?" I asked.I don't remember if it was my daughter, youngest son, or great-sometimes-mediocre nephew who answered, "We decided to put the Christmas tree up."

The other day one of my dogs slipped out of the house. My thought was that he was going to get killed in the road! Or he is going to get lost in the woods and starve to death. Perhaps someone will see him running loose and think that I don't care, so they will just take him. Maybe someone will steal him because he is so cute! Or maybe he will end up back in the Shelter.
