103.Nashville Elementary D.A.R.E. Essays
The knowledge and skills that I have learned will help me make healthy choices. If you take drugs you could die. Drugs are very bad for your body. I learned that if you are caught with drugs you will go to jail. A healthy choice for me is that I will never take drugs as long as I live. Drugs can kill you in a very bad way.

104.Alcohol and tobacco should also be considered as dangerous, addictive drugs that kill thousands every year
Dear Editor, I’ll admit an initial voyeuristic thrill at seeing the front page of the January 30, 2008 issue of The Graphic. I was going to get to gawk at the sad mug shot of thirteen from the area arrested for drugs in Operation Clean Slate 2008. I quickly scanned to see who I might know or recognize. I suppose there is something about a public shamming ritual of this sort that grabs and holds my attention.

109.Big industry isn’t always the best solution
If my memory serves me right – seems like back in 2001, the predictions were that Nashville’s economy was going to explode due to the 1,000 or more new jobs that were coming due to the opening of Universal Leaf Tobacco Company just outside of town. The $130 million project was at the top of most all conversations – some for it, some against it.

I had big plans for January 2, plans that were ruined because I decided to go ahead and get the whole getting sick thing out of the way for 2010. I spent a big chunk of the first few days of the New Year in bed. Thankfully, I don’t think it was that H1N1 stuff but it was some sort of bug. As I lay in bed though, I realized that I may have brought this on myself because recently, I was telling someone that I could use a good four days to just sleep. I guess this is a prime example of being careful what you wish for.

My end of the county is becoming one gigantic solar farm. This is a problem for many reasons. The number one reason is that my garden is doing poorly -- to the extreme -- and I believe it is due to the solar farms.I'm not one of those nutjobs that think the solar panels are capturing all the sunlight or more than their fair share.

I can remember when I was younger how different the things that people ate for lunch or even for snack used to be. These choices that seem so foreign or unpalatable today were very common back in the 1970s and 80s.For example, when we barned tobacco, I can remember at break time and lunch the pop-top cans and wrappers would come out of black lunch boxes or brown paper bags. Workers would make miniature sandwiches by taking Vienna sausages and slapping them between two saltine crackers.
