All of us wonder from time to time if God really does care about what's going on in our lives. Why? Because there are those occasions in life when "life" seems to be crashing down on us. We try our best to live for the Lord. But when things go awry, we seek his comfort and his guidance. We pray but nothing seems to come of it. "Where is he?,"we wonder.
I confess I've had those same thoughts. Jesus once had them, too. He was as a man who was dying on the cross for our sins.

Following my thoughts from last week... Do you trust God? Trust in God is expressed by believing prayer. But it is not necessarily an act of trust to ask God to get you out of trouble. That may be desperation, not dependence. Trust is displayed by thanking God in the midst of trouble. That's the message of Psalm 138: In the midst of your troubles, you still have much to thank God for. What should you thank God for in the midst of your troubles?

RALEIGH - Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler is cautioning pet owners not to feed B&B brand pet foods, made by B&B of New Jersey, after an investigation conducted by the department's Food and Drug Protection Division determined these raw meat-based products were manufactured and distributed without the required regulatory oversight.

Nashville town officials have approved creation of a Barn Quilt Wall on the side of the new Recreation Center at 200 Boddie Street.
Koy Worrell, Parks and Rec Director, speaking at the August 6 town council meeting, said there are three towns in North Carolina with barn quilt walls- Taylorsville, Mount Ulla and Sampson- all in the western part of the state, but said his staff would apply for Nashville's wall to be added to the Quilt Trails of the Tar & Roanoke Rivers, which is the only official quilt trail in eastern NC.

NASHVILLE - It takes a village - and 30 to 40 volunteers supplied a village of help to a Nashville couple July 19, supplying a new fence, flagpole and other home repairs during a veterans' help initiative.
Shawn Holland, vice-president of Seegars Fence Company of Rocky Mount, said he tries to do a project to help local veterans several times each year, having started with the DAVFI (Disabled American Veteran Fence Initiative), which focuses on putting up a free fence for disabled veterans who have service dogs.

NASHVILLE - Newly-revised land use regulations for the town of Nashville will be up for public comment before a vote for adoption at the August 20 town council meeting.
The result of several months of meetings between town leaders and Michael Harvey of N-Focus Consultants, a Planning, Zoning and Subdivision Administrator, the ordinance was expanded with parts added and other parts re-written in order to align with state changes and assist in code enforcement.

NASHVILLE - After months of dissent between council members and differing opinions from the general public, the plan to purchase the Fellowship Church property on Old White Oak Road as a new town hall is dead.
By a unanimous vote, the Nashville town council passed a motion at its August 6 town meeting not to buy the property, allowing the church to keep its $5,000 earnest money deposit.

NASHVILLE - A 21-year-old Dortches man is dead and three people arrested, charged with first degree murder and armed robbery, after a fatal shooting over the weekend in Nashville.
Nash County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at 1971 Exum Road at 3:16 a.m. Saturday and found Caleb Turner injured with multiple gunshot wounds. Life saving measures were attempted, but Turner was pronounced dead on site, according to an August 6 NCSO press release.

NASHVILLE - Former Nash County Assistant Director for Emergency and Fire Rescue Services, Brent Fisher, has been awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest award for state service granted by the Governor. His brother Bryant Fisher, who heads up Nash 9-1-1, presented his twin with the award at the Nash County Board of Commissioners' meeting August 5.

NASHVILLE - Expansion plans for an Oak Level area subdivision, Castle Berry Phase Three, are stalled following a denial for a special use permit to allow conditional rezoning August 5 by the Nash Board of Commissioners.
Aaron Chalker, senior planner for the Nash Planning Department, presented plans Monday for the 36.9 acres of undeveloped land located at the intersection of Oak Level Road and Barnes Hill Church Road, Nashville, owned by H&S Land LLC.

NASHVILLE - Continued allegations of insufficient EMS ambulance staffing in the southern end of Nash County by the Mayor of Bailey were addressed by the county manager at Monday's Board of Commissioners meeting, with the board chair issuing a plea to elected officials and the public to "get the facts" and to stay away from issuing negative comments.
