Sunday morning dawned with beautiful sunshine, after a stormy night. Sanctuary flowers were given by Tanya Winstead Pitts, in memory of her husband, Harry Nelson Pitts, and her parents Willard and Mary Winstead. The adult Choir sang, "He's as Close as the Mention of His Name", under the direction of the pastor.
Pastor Whitehouse chose as his sermon title, "The God of Second Chances --2".

Red Oak United Methodist Church just completed their summer ministry, "No Hunger During Summer". Through this ministry 20 children received 7 breakfasts, lunches, and snacks along with 3 family meals a week for 11 weeks!

Spaulding Alumni to celebrate 44th reunion

Labor Day Weekend is quickly approaching, which means the coming together of the C.C. Spaulding Alumni Association's 44th annual Reunion.
The reunion will begin on Friday, August 31 with a membership meeting at 4:30 p.m. at the teacher's home followed by a fish fry at the Spring Hope Community Building, 104 Community Street in Spring Hope at 7 p.m.

LEGGETT -- Nash Central took care of business last Friday -- and now awaits a huge test this Friday at The Dawg Pound.
Central opened its campaign last Friday by rolling to a strong 40-6 victory on the road against the North Edgecombe Warriors.
It was a taking-care-of-business type of game for the Bulldogs, who were expected to win -- and delivered on that expectation.

WILSON -- Southern Nash's ever-improving volleyball squad came up with another key victory Monday as the Ladybirds registered a sweep at non-conference opponent Wilson Beddingfield.
The Ladybirds, coached by Melanie Davis, were winners by a 25-19, 25-15 and 25-21 total.

Samuel McClain, Sr., of Rocky Mount, was this month's honoree.
McClain was born in Savannah, Georgia on February 5, 1921.
