During the 40 Days in the Word at Red Oak Baptist Church each small group or Sunday School class was encouraged to carry out a project. Classes have planned a variety of projects including the Adult 2 Sunday School class which assembled kits Sunday, March 31, with toiletry items to be distributed by My Sister's House.
The North Roanoke Baptist Association Senior Adult Spring Luncheon will be Tuesday, Mary 7 at West Edgecombe Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

Nash County Extension Agent speaks to local garden club

Matthew Stevens, Extension Agent with Nash County Cooperative Extension, recently shared with the Rocky Mount Garden Club a presentation on "Soil Testing and Composting." He began by explaining different types of plants, grasses, and shrubbery thrive in soils with different levels of pH.
Stevens reminded the group the pH scale ranges from 0 - 14, with 7.0 being neutral.

Carroll, CPCU, Executive Vice President and General Manager of North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. Sherrod was selected for the honor based on the agency's outstanding sales and service record for multi-lines of insurance during 2018.

Bishops, MU split a twinbill

FAYETTEVILLE -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team split its conference doubleheader with rival Methodist University last Saturday as each thrilling game was decided by one run and a play at home plate to end it.
Wesleyan's rally fell short 13-12 in game one while the Bishops held on to win 8-7 in game two by throwing out the runner at home to win it.

GREENSBORO -- After throwing his first career complete game shutout in last Saturday's 3-0 win against Virginia, top-ranked North Carolina State Univesity baseball's Reid Johnston has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
"Reid was the story of the game," head coach Elliott Avent said following Saturday's win.

TAMPA, FLA. -- Bryant Packard hit his second grand slam of the weekend, while Jake Kuchmaner and Gavin Williams did the rest helping No. 13 East Carolina University to a series sweep at USF, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at USF Baseball Stadium.
With the win, the Pirates improve to 21-6 overall and 6-0 in American Athletic Conference play while extending their win streak to nine games.
