DNA & Dogs ~ I'm sure many of you have heard of DNA for people, finding out if your ancestors were from Scotland, Germany or you may even be an Native American, for example. However, did you know that DNA is available for dogs too! I've had the test done on a couple of my dogs.
I thought Poppy had some bird dog in him, considering his interest in birds and how he would go to point.

This is one of my favorite Easter devotions, so important that I wanted to share it with you weeks before Good Friday so you can think about it and its importance for Easter. The story below is why we can describe that fateful Friday as Good Friday.

Jesus said some pretty profound, odd, and flat out absurd things during his earthly ministry. Think about it, he told Nic at Night that one needed to be born again. He told a dead man named Lazarus to come out from his grave. He not only spoke to storms and seas, but they obeyed him! He even told the disciples that the first shall be last and the last first. Whew, that Jesus...he said some stuff indeed!

During the 40 Days in the Word at Red Oak Baptist Church each small group or Sunday School class was encouraged to carry out a project. Classes have planned a variety of projects including the Adult 2 Sunday School class which assembled kits Sunday, March 31, with toiletry items to be distributed by My Sister's House.
The North Roanoke Baptist Association Senior Adult Spring Luncheon will be Tuesday, Mary 7 at West Edgecombe Baptist Church at 11 a.m.

Matthew Stevens, Extension Agent with Nash County Cooperative Extension, recently shared with the Rocky Mount Garden Club a presentation on "Soil Testing and Composting." He began by explaining different types of plants, grasses, and shrubbery thrive in soils with different levels of pH.
Stevens reminded the group the pH scale ranges from 0 - 14, with 7.0 being neutral.

David Sherrod, Manager of Nash County Farm Bureau of Rocky Mount, was named second place Honor Agency Manager in his category for 2018, by Steven D. Carroll, CPCU, Executive Vice President and General Manager of North Carolina Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company. Sherrod was selected for the honor based on the agency's outstanding sales and service record for multi-lines of insurance during 2018.

ROCKY MOUNT -- With a veteran lineup loaded with experience, the Nash Central Bulldogs fully expected to make a lofty run this spring in the Class 2-A Eastern Plains Conference boys tennis standings.
Central has lived up to that expectation to date as the Bulldogs are currently in second place in the EPC -- one loss behind perennial leader North Johnston.

STANHOPE -- The awards keep piling in for Southern Nash High School senior boys basketball standout Darius Edmundson.
Already the recipient of Big East Conference Player of the Year honors, Edmundson was recently saluted with a spot on the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association's All-District 3 list.

FAYETTEVILLE -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College baseball team split its conference doubleheader with rival Methodist University last Saturday as each thrilling game was decided by one run and a play at home plate to end it.
Wesleyan's rally fell short 13-12 in game one while the Bishops held on to win 8-7 in game two by throwing out the runner at home to win it.

GREENSBORO -- After throwing his first career complete game shutout in last Saturday's 3-0 win against Virginia, top-ranked North Carolina State Univesity baseball's Reid Johnston has been named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
"Reid was the story of the game," head coach Elliott Avent said following Saturday's win.

TAMPA, FLA. -- Bryant Packard hit his second grand slam of the weekend, while Jake Kuchmaner and Gavin Williams did the rest helping No. 13 East Carolina University to a series sweep at USF, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at USF Baseball Stadium.
With the win, the Pirates improve to 21-6 overall and 6-0 in American Athletic Conference play while extending their win streak to nine games.

ZEBULON -- The Milwaukee Brewers have announced the initial roster for the Carolina Mudcats in advance of the 2019 season. The new roster features 13 players returning from the 2018 team and top organizational prospects including outfielder Tristen Lutz and catchers Payton Henry and Mario Feliciano.
