Barnes wins NC Senate seat

Nash County native and North Carolina House Representative Lisa Stone Barnes will be going back to the North Carolina General Assembly next year, but this time as a North Carolina Senator.
After a successful primary bid, Barnes unofficially won the General Election with 55.05 percent of the vote, or 60,870 votes.

Castalia native keeps District 7 Judicial seat

Five NC District Judge seats were up for grabs in District 7 during the 2020 General Election.
Castalia native and Spring Hope resident Anthony W. "Tony" Brown was re-elected to serve one of those seats.
Brown, a Democrat, received 62,379 votes, or 54.20 percent of the votes, according to unofficial results.

Butterfield wins US House seat

The 2020 General Election brought out 75.71 percent of Nash County's registered voters to the polls.
Nash County has 68,677 registered voters. Of those, 51,996 cast Ballots in the 2020 General Election.
A majority of those votes were cast prior to election day.

Nashville woman sings at presidential rally

A Nash County resident had the chance of a lifetime recently, when she was asked to sing the National Anthem at a local rally with Vice President Mike Pence.
Brenda Jones said she was shocked to receive the phone call just a few days before the rally, which was held on Saturday at the Rocky Mount-Wilson Airport. Jones said someone had heard her perform at a local rally and called asking if she'd be willing to do the same at the Nash County GOP sponsored rally for Pence.

Human remains found in Castalia

The Nash County Sheriff's Office is investigating after human remains were found on Sumler Road in Castalia.
The remains of a human body in the dry/skeletonized stages of decomposition were found on Wednesday, October 28.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office received a call for service around 1:03 p.m. after the discovery of the remains were found near the entrance of Sandy Creek Gameland located at 11872 Sumler Road in Castalia.

Nashville man charged with tractor theft, selling in Franklin County

A Nashville man has been arrested and charged with stealing farm equipment and reselling it.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the area of Watson Seed Farm Road and Massengale Road on September 5 in reference to a John Deere tractor being stolen. During the investigation, it was discovered that the tractor had been sold to Louisburg Tractor in Franklin County.

Mixed beverage ballot passes in Spring Hope

Spring Hope residents showed they are in favor of allowing the sale of mixed beverages, as voters approved a liquor by the drink referendum.
The referendum was on the 2020 general election ballot for Spring Hope, with 69.52 percent of voters, or 479 voters, voting in favor of the referendum.
Two hundred and ten voters, or 30.48 percent of voters, voted against the referendum.

NCSO sergeant honored for life saving event
NCSO sergeant honored for life saving event

A sergeant with the Nash County Sheriff's Office was presented with a lifesaving award during the regular meeting of the Nash County Board of Commissioners.
Sergeant Stan Ricks was presented the Meritorious Lifesaving Award by Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone on Monday morning.
Ricks was instrumental in helping save the life of someone whose vehicle became submerged during an accident.

COVID-19 deaths increase

The Nash County Health Department reported that it had received seven death notifications last week.
The deaths were as a result of COVID-19.
Of the seven, five were females and two were males. Four were in the 70's, one was in the late 60's, one in the early 90's and one in the late 80's. Three of the seven patients had no underlying conditions while the remaining four had underlying conditions.

There is more to life than a virus, election rhetoric

Take a deep breath, dear reader: this week's column is to remind you that the world is not all COVID-19, riots and elections.
By the time you read this, the election will be over. The shouting will likely continue for some time, but at least the ads, mail flyers and signs can go away.
And while "the virus" is real and still quite dangerous, regardless of who the winners were Tuesday night, you can count on the storyline changing one way or the other.

The library has a new slogan "More than just books" You will be able to see this slogan on our new awning that we are expecting to be delivered any day now, and may I add there is a new sign at the road.
We now have a sign on the building too. Library science has emerged over the years; with keeping up with the trends of technology.

PUPPIES - Saw an article about ads selling designer and purebred dogs, how puppies are costing up to 50 percent more than before the pandemic. The article was from NY so the costs were crazy but before you buy that doggie in the window (internet) at any price, do your research. Frist, please educate yourself on puppy mills before you purchase. If you have to have them shipped to you and don't visit... for sure it is a puppy mill pup.
