After serving the county for over 36 years, Brian Brantley resigned abruptly October 4. He began his career in 1982 as emergency management coordinator for a two-county agency representing Nash and Edgecombe counties.

STANHOPE -- Now firmly entrenched atop the Big East Conference standings, the Southern Nash High School boys soccer team continues to dominate league opposition.
SN's latest successful venture came Monday as the Firebirds delivered a convincing 5-0 home victory over the Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets at the SNHS Soccer Complex.

NCWC wins on the road

DANVILLE, VA. -- The North Carolina Wesleyan College football program put on a defensive and rushing clinic last Saturday evening as the Bishops spoiled rival Averett University's homecoming with a suffocating 17-9 win on the AU campus in Danville. Freshman running back Trevon Crank led the Bishop offense running for a career-high 217 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 9 yards per carry. It was part of a 252-yard rushing performance from the offense.
