The public should always be the priority
The public should always be the priority

I think I was as shocked as anyone to find a public hearing was scheduled on October 27th for the county's redistricting plan.
I even asked if I had missed a meeting at which the plan, or plans, might have been unveiled or presented.

Nashville couple enjoys Halloween tradition

Ghosts, goblins and a lot of creative decorations bring children of all ages to the home of Loretta and Ray Irvin in Nashville each year on Halloween night.
The couple has decorated their yard every Halloween over the past decade with multiple creative scenes and "spooky" characters from the past.
Ray Irvin said they try to create new scenes each year and also add a different twist such as his newest blonde ghost he named Sarah Jessica Parker who flies towards you as you enter the yard.

Religion can hinder salvation
Religion can hinder salvation

It has been such a blessing over my lifetime to see people have salvation experiences. However, I've never witnessed one as dramatic as one I saw several years ago. A twenty-six year old man came to know the Lord fol-lowing a drama presented at our church. The drama depicted poor choices people often make and the consequences that they can bring. One of the scenes pointed out that hell is a real place and is full of lost souls who made poor choices.

RED OAK NEWS

There were hundreds of fun characters at Ennis Park on Sunday, October 31 for the Community Trunk or Treat sponsored by Red Oak Baptist Church! Spiderman, princesses, cats, little red riding hood, cowboys, and more were seen having a great time playing games, collecting candy, and eating hot dogs. Guests were lined up to get a look at the trunks decorated by several in the community which featured scarecrows, hunters, minions, Harry Potter, beauty parlor workers, Northern Nash Knights, the Great Pumpkin, and Chick-fil-a just to name a few!

PEACHTREE COMMUNITY NEWS

It was a beautiful day at Peachtree this past Sunday for our Observance of another Believer's Baptism. Our members gathered to celebrate with Mr. Melvin D. Hayes as he stepped into the pool to have his sins washed away and to except the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
The Sanctuary flower arrangement today is presented to glorify God by Susan and Lawrence Edwards in loving memory of Susan's son, Thomas Moorefield.
Mrs. Jane May, Pianist, played a beautiful solo.

Holy and Whole: Patterns for Life Together
Holy and Whole: Patterns for Life Together

The church should work towards redeeming words, sanctifying them, not cancelling them because they make us uncomfortable or perhaps because we heard something, somewhere about what a word means.
One such word is, "Pentecostal". For brothers and sisters in Christ, who do not identify with Pentecostal denominations, this term can cause severe confusion and angst, which is tragic.

Northern gets past Gryphons

RED OAK -- While last Friday evening's football contest between the Northern Nash Knights and Rocky Mount Gryphons may not have had any meaning in terms of the Big East Conference standings, there was certainly no love lost between the two arch-rivals.
While the Knights had already secured their first conference title since 2010 with the previous week's win over Southern Nash, they still had a wall to knock down.

STANHOPE -- A Big East Conference crown wasn't in the cards this season for the Southern Nash Firebirds -- but Coach Brian Batchelor's club still has plenty to play for. That's because the Firebirds, who have lost just once this fall, have earned a strong seed for the upcoming Class 3-A State Football Playoffs -- and will host a contest this Friday at historic Firebird Stadium on the SNHS campus.
