Thousands of people visited downtown Nashville Mother's Day weekend for the return of the Nashville Blooming Festival after a two-year pause due to COVID-19.
Nashville's Chamber of Commerce organized and launched its 24th event last weekend which included all of the festival favorites including live music, festival food, over 90 craft vendors, a four-day carnival and parade.

Early voting for the May 17th primary ends Saturday, May 14th in Nash County. Voting is through Friday from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Saturday May 14th from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Locations for early voting are Nash County Agriculture Center, 1006 Eastern Ave., Nashville; Braswell Memorial Library, 727 N. Grace St., Rocky Mount; and Mt. Pleasant Community Building, 7637 Harris Road, Bailey.

NC Treasure Hunters Campground opens

A Nashville man who discovered a multitude of historic treasures on his land has transformed it into a campground for others to find valuables as well.
Ross Fisher and his father Tim Fisher purchased around 17.5 acres of land in Hollister seven years ago. Fisher said the land was purchased so he and his father could search for gold and other relics.
The land is known to be a part of the Portis Gold Mine which was the first gold mine in the eastern Carolina Belt.

Red Oak reviews budget

The town of Red Oak's budget looks pretty solid for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
"I think it's a very good budget," said Town Clerk Tracy Shearin.
The total budget for the town is $1,582,262 if American Rescue Plan (ARPA)funds of $437,062 are included.

Nashville Police apprehend juvenile Friday night after firearm discharge

Nashville Police apprehended a juvenile suspect in connection with the discharge of a firearm Friday night in the area of Church Street.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., a citizen reported to a police officer on duty at the Nashville Blooming Festival carnival area they had observed a younger subject wearing a black mask and bearing a handgun in his waist band.

Lowell runs into 15 like a bull in a china shop

I have a checkup coming soon and I'm going to have to explain my stress eating.
I think once I remind the doctor I have two teenage sons in the house, I'll get a pass. Lowell just turned 15, a month after Kent hit 17.
Last fall, Lowell took a hard hit in a high school soccer game. So hard he had to go to the ER and they diagnosed him with a concussion.

Our news email is flooded with press releases and updates regarding the recent violent crimes in Rocky Mount. Typically we focus our coverage on Nashville and other areas of Nash County leaving the City of Rocky Mount government and happenings to the newspaper in Rocky Mount.
However the recent escalation, or should I say explosion, of crime in Rocky Mount is now something that affects all of Nash County, not just the city.

The North Carolina weighted average price quoted Thursday, May 05, for small lot sales of delivered, cartoned, grade "A" eggs was 294.65 for Extra Large, 291.68 for Large, 267.53

No one knows what all of the ads will say, but I can tell you what you will likely see.
My guess is that May's races will showcase principle giving way to lust, a most ungodly trait.

NCC holds Electric Line Construction rodeo and graduation

Nash Community College celebrated its Electric Line Construction Technology program Third Class certificate graduates on Thursday, May 5, 2022 with a pole climbing rodeo and graduation ceremony. The day's celebration began 8:30 a.m. on NCC's utility pole training field as Electric Line Construction students competed in a rodeo demonstrating their skills in protected grounding, climbing obstacles and hurt man rescue techniques. With family members, friends and supporters looking on, the students earned points for safety, and were timed during the competition.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office will be receiving a grant for the purchase of a utility vehicle.
Major Eddie Moore of the sheriff's office said the office applied for a lifesaving equipment grant through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation back in January.
