Nashville alters bulk, yard waste pickup

NASHVILLE - Effective July 1st, Nashville residents will have a change in bulk item, electronics and yard waste pickup dates. Town officials say the reason for the town code changes is to make manpower and equipment usage more efficient, thereby freeing up additional man hours for other duties, such as pothole repair. BULK ITEMS
Bulk items - including used electronics- will now be picked up, by appointments, once a month- on the first Friday of each month- rather than every week.

Sewer system report shows sewer system in fair condition

NASHVILLE - A wastewater assessment of Nashville's sewer system has come back with surprising news, considering the age of the pipes. In a nutshell, the pipes are "fair," with no imminent failure, but will need ongoing lining to prolong their lives another 50 years.
Mike Tolson, engineer with Mac, Gay and Associates, reported generally on a 75-page asset inventory assessment (AIA); the work being required for the town to receive a related $150,000 AIA grant and part of a ten-year capital improvement plan.

NC House amends Senate bill

RALEIGH - A May 2026 Senate bill leaders say was filed to protect Rocky Mount utility customers has received some significant tweaks from the House, including the establishment of a Public Utility Advisory Committee that would include customers who live outside city limits.
Senate Bill 1076, whose short title is the Rocky Mount/Louisburg Utility Rev./Advisory, was voted on Tuesday by a House committee; it will now continue to the House Rules committee and then to the main floor. Should it pass all those hurdles, it then goes back to the Senate for its approval.

Chad Brandon, District Forester, and Faith Hoskins, Assistant Nash County Ranger, sat down with The Graphic recently at the NC Forest Service office in Nashville to explain the connection.
Fire Season, Brandon said, usually runs from February through April each year - but due to Nash County's Extreme Drought status, Fire season shows no sign now of stopping.

Fame, fortune, ego and scams come with the writer's life
Fame, fortune, ego and scams come with the writer's life

As many of you know -- because I've relentlessly posted on social media and talk about it all the time -- my fifth book came out earlier this year.
This of course has made me tremendously famous and super rich with an out-of-control ego, something most of us dream about. [Note: Isn't it interesting that so many folks want to be rich, but also hate rich people?].
When people find out I'm a writer, they sometimes ask questions, such as "Have you written anything I would have heard of?"

Where is time going and why can't we get anything done?
Where is time going and why can't we get anything done?

I have noticed two specific similarities in recent conversations. Where is time going and why can't I get anything done?
Thinking back to slower paced times when we had to use a road map when driving to a new destination, we researched information using the card catalog at a library, and reading books rather than digital devices. Those days were not all that bad though everything took a little more effort.
Now we listen to our GPS guide us to our destination. I'm willing to bet many have to use GPS when returning to the same location.

When dreams don't come true
When dreams don't come true

I love turning to the scriptures in times of doubt and disappointment. My faith has taught me that there really isn't anything that can happen to me in life that the Bible cannot help me to understand and accept.
Just like the owner's manual for your car, Christians should consult the Bible when things don't seem to be working out. It's our "Christian Owner's Manual". One thing that comes our way - particularly later in life - is the reality that some of our dreams are just not going to happen.

Is God Dead? - Suffering and the Bible
Is God Dead? - Suffering and the Bible

The existence of evil and suffering in the world is a complex and far-reaching reality. Consequently, understanding God's role in the existence of evil is critically important in helping us ultimately to answer the question: is God dead? For we can safely conclude that if God is dead, or if He never existed in the first place, then the problem of evil and suffering goes away in the sense that it has no Causal Agent for us to place blame upon-evil just is. It is not that the evil and the suffering itself go away, but the logical problem of why a loving God would allow it to go away. But it really is not that easy.
