Wesleyan a winner in extras
From Staff Reports
Junior guard Lenny Hall, who netted a team-high 24 points, knocked down a 10-foot jumper with 15 seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at 66-66 and force the extra period. Wesleyan improves to 9-10 overall, 4-3 in USA South play.
The Bishops never trailed in the overtime period, out-scoring the Hornets 17-12.
The victory capped a furious comeback by Wesleyan. NCWC found itself down by as many as 17 late in the first half and went on to trail 38-25 at the break.
A three-pointer by SU's Curtis Grover at the 10:19 mark in the second half gave Shenandoah a 52-40 advantage. The Bishops, however, responded with a 16-4 run over the next 4:53 that was capped by a Jarvis Cobb fastbreak lay-up at the 6:53 mark. From this point on, the game saw three ties and four lead changes.
After Wesleyan took command of the extra session with the 6-0 run, Shenandoah was able to cut it no closer than four points the rest of the way.
Cobb chipped in 17 to go along with Hall's 24.
