Margie Driver Burgess

NASHVILLE - Margie Driver Burgess, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Born in Wilson County, NC on December 28, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Rev. James L. Driver and Sallie Godwin Driver. She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Burgess; her brothers, Edgar Driver and Tommy Driver; and her sisters, Daisy Boykin and Lindy Worley.

Margie was a quiet strength in the lives of all who knew her--a woman of deep faith and unwavering devotion to her family. She always placed her children first, pouring herself into their lives with a love that was steadfast and selfless. Her gentle presence and attentive ear made her not only a beloved mother, but also a cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She had a heart that welcomed others, and a quiet determination that carried her through life with grace and resilience.

Margie found joy in the simple pleasures--getting lost in a good book, playing cards with family and friends, and making memories through travel. She especially loved her time spent in Hawaii, a place that brought her peace and happiness. She was a faithful Duke fan, always cheering for her team with loyal enthusiasm. To know Margie was to be cared for deeply. She listened well, loved deeply, and lived with purpose. Her legacy is one of strength, kindness, and enduring love--a life beautifully lived and forever remembered.

Margie is survived by her son, Tim Burgess and wife, Elaine; her daughter, Carol Dees and husband, Bob; her grandchildren, Joseph Dees, Lisa Dees, Jonathan Burgess, Joshua Burgess, and Zachary Burgess; her great-grandchildren, Zoey Burgess, Olivia Burgess, Lucy Burgess, Bella Burgess, Cora Burgess, Christopher Burgess, Autumn Burgess, and Zachary Burgess; her brother, Barry Driver; her sisters, Patricia Carter and Mag Proctor; and many nieces and nephews.

A Special Gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday, June 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

A private family burial of cremains will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Margie's memory to Calvary Chapel, 3731 Red Oak Battleboro Road, Battleboro, NC 27809.
