NASHVILLE- A conditional rezoning request to allow a 122-lot subdivision on Wildlife Road, Catalia, will be coming before the Nash Board of Commissioners June 2nd, while carrying a recommendation in opposition from the Nash County Planning Board.
The 151-acre parcel on the north side of Wildlife Road, owned by Dan L. Bell, Linda T. Bell, William T. Freeman and Judy T. Freeman, is currently zoned A1 Agricultural, which allows lot sizes of 40,000 square feet.

NASHVILLE - After its third and last budget meeting on May 21st, the Nashville town council is expected to vote on its proposed FY2026 budget at its upcoming June 3rd regular meeting- unless there is opposition during a public hearing on the budget that night, which could make council members feel that a change is needed.

NASHVILLE - A business at Nashville's Industrial Court has filed bankruptcy and left the town of Nashville holding the bag for over $280,000 in unpaid fees.
Atlantic Natural Foods (ANF), located at 110 Industry Court, Nashville, and owned by David Williams and his Mid Atlantic Warehouse & Storage, LLC, Rocky Mount, also has a manufacturing location in Bangkok, Thailand, according to the company website, atlanticnaturalfoods.com
Randy Lansing, town manager, said the town received notice of ANF's bankruptcy April 9.

SPRING HOPE - A divisive matter about alleged improper platting of subdivision lots along S. Big Woods Road may be up for discussion at the upcoming June 2nd Board of Commissioners meeting, after a NCDOT representative sent an email of complaint to the town.
The Graphic requested and obtained a copy of a May 20 email from Kimberly Moore, NCDOT District Engineer serving Nash and Wilson Counties. The email is public record since it pertains to town business and was sent to Kyle Pritchard, Mayor of Spring Hope, who then forwarded it to town commissioners.

NASHVILLE- Surrounded by more than 800 small American flags set on the graves of veterans, more than fifty people turned out for the annual Memorial Day Service conducted Sunday, May 25th, at Nashville's Forest Hills Cemetery. The event was sponsored by Nashville American Legion Post 110.
Remembrance and gratitude were common themes shared by those present, including Post 110 members and local clergy.

MOMEYER - Momeyer town officials are trying out a new investment company to have more flexibility in how quickly they can access town funds.
Representatives from The North Carolina Capital Management Trust made a presentation at the May 12 town council meeting, with the end result in their favor: the council voted to take two CD's worth about $214,000 maturing in June to invest as money market funds. One is earmarked for infrastructure needs while the other is designated for emergency funds.

NASHVILLE - The case of a 63-year-old Nashville man charged with second degree murder in the shooting death of his son has been continued, with action pending from a grand jury review.
Darrell Greg Wallace of 416 Woodfield Drive had a probable cause hearing scheduled in Nash District Court May 22, which has been continued by consent of parties, according to court records. The new hearing date is recorded as December 25, 2025.

ROCKY MOUNT- A change of venue for the Joint Veterans Memorial Day 2025 Ceremony Monday in Rocky Mount didn't diminish attendance, as over 100 people took part in the annual event.
Originally scheduled outside at the Veterans Memorial at Jack Laughery Park, anticipation of rain caused a shift down the street to the American Legion hall at 2731 N. Church Street, with activities beginning on time at 10 a.m.

NASHVILLE - While not part of the proposed FY 2026 budget, which includes some changes and additions to Nashville's fee schedule, a new $40 charge relating to water backflow and cross-connection has squeaked in under the wire, with an amendment to the 2024-2025 fiscal year schedule done at the May 6 council session.
Ordinance 2020-01 was adopted five years ago to add water backflow and cross-connection control regulations to parallel the state's model. One section of the local ordinance authorizes the council to establish fees for ensuring compliance with permit regulations.

The Roman Soldiers After Pilate condemned Jesus to death, Roman soldiers led Jesus out to be crucified. Verse 21 says, "And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross." Most likely, Simon's eyewitness testimony reported the place and process of crucifixion. The Place of Crucifixion. Verse 22 says, "And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a skull)." A centurion and four soldiers led this death march. Finally, they arrive at Golgotha. Mark translates this Aramaic name for Greek readers: "Place of a skull."

While we laugh at the humor behind those words, we are embarrassed to admit that few of us rarely live up to the promise, "I'm praying for you".
Don't get me wrong. Most Christians do pray for others as soon as they learn of the need. However, only a handful of Christians continue to pray for God to respond to that need. Sadly, many of us never place that need in our prayers again. Yes, we prayed for them. However, we do not continue to pray for them. There's a big difference!

The women's ministry of Nashville Methodist Church called Sisterhood met for a Tea Party in early May. It was a time of fun, fellowship and faith as the women gathered, some donned in their dresses and hats reminiscent of days gone by when ladies welcomed nice little retreats to enjoy each other's company and chat about "girl" things.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) announced that Elisha Pope of Spring Hope and Shantel McCalston of Nashville were named to the Spring 2025 President's List. The spring terms run from January to May.
Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.700 and above for the reporting term are named to the President's List.

I've only made it to the local strawberry farm two times this year. And Sunday, the young lady at the order window told me this was the last week for berries.
I looked at my watch, not to check the time, but the date. It seems like we had a longer season this year, but it could just be me.
I put the container of berries in the car and Kristi and I took the first pull off of our milkshakes. Mine was strawberry with no sugar added, so it didn't actually count as me eating, it was just a serving of fruit.

The newspaper office doors have been swinging open quite a bit this week bringing in high school seniors who are working hard to wrap up a project which includes utilizing their local newspaper.
Apparently, from what we understand, their semester-long project has included reading certain categories of articles, we believe finance.
Honestly, many of the teens coming by to grab the last few weeks of newspapers they need to complete their project, have been super excited about the paper.

2025 GIRLS SOCCER CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS

NASHVILLE -- The 2024-25 academic and athletic year marked one of the most successful season-long campaigns in the history of Nash Central Middle School's athletic department, particularly its girls sports.
The Lady Trojan volleyball, girls basketball, softball and girls soccer teams each won the Tri-County Conference Championship this school year, doing so in comprehensive fashion.

NASH COUNTY -- The final baseball regular season for the Big East Conference -- at least in its current form -- proved to be a memorable one as Southern Nash, Nash Central and Northern Nash all qualified for the state playoffs in their respective classifications.
But the ultimate Big East Conference showstopper proved to be Bunn as the Wildcats, who are leaving the league starting in the fall, roared to the regular season championship under the direction of veteran head coach Patrick Warren.
