Bailey subdivision denied again

Nash County Commissioners denied construction of a subdivision for a second time, despite changes made to its original plan.
Initially, the proposed plan called for a 204-lot subdivision to be built off of Green Pond Loop Road, which is northeast of Bailey. Seventy of the 204 residential lots were said to be accessed directly from Green Pond Loop Road.

Water billing prompts complaints

The Town of Nashville is planning to host an informational meeting about water bills.
Two Nashville residents raised concerns over the water billing system in the town at town council's regular meeting on Tuesday night.
Daniel Woodfin, who lives on Birchwood Drive, also spoke on water bills and said he felt a policy should be changed on how water is cut off.

A GOOD COOKIE

Cara Cotugno of Nash County Girl Scouts Troop 611 is pictured selling Girl Scout Cookies in downtown Nashville in front of Nash Arts Center Tuesday. She is a top seller within the troop. Over the years, she has sold over 10,000 boxes and will be headed on trips overseas to represent the Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts will be in the area selling cookies and taking donations to send to soldiers.

Spring Hope to pull cleanup services from Envrionlink

The town of Spring Hope is seeking to remove a few services from its contract with its current public works contractor.
Town Manager Andrew DeIonno said the town is requesting quotes from various companies for leaf and limb pickup as well as mowing town owned properties.
Envirolink, the town's present maintenance company, usually fulfills that need.

Suspects cleared in murder case

Murder charges have been dropped against three of four men charged with the 2017 quadruple murder that happened in the Glenview community of Halifax County.
Married couples James and Janice Harris and James and Peggy Whitley were sitting around a kitchen table playing card games in a home when they were fatally shot and killed in August, 2017.

Nash may relocate nutrition warehouse

Nash County Public Schools Board of Education member Evelyn Bulluck requested clarification last week of the proposed use of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER) for the purpose of buying new freezers and moving the child nutrition warehouse from Rocky Mount to Nashville.
The child nutrition warehouse is currently located on Nutrition Street in Rocky Mount which is in Edgecombe County.

COVID-19 cases continue to decline in Nash County

Nash County Health Department Director Bill Hill reported Tuesday COVID-19 cases in the county are continuing decline.
He said over the past week there has been 352 new cases which brings the county to 26,638 confirmed cases.
Hill said two deaths have occurred this week which increases the total number of fatalities to 276.

Nash County Sheriff's Office Deputy Matthew Gailliard and Deputy Cameron Flora will make a brief appearance on Friday's episode of ncIMPACT focused on Law Enforcement Shortage in North Carolina.
The deputies will discuss how NCSO finds success in recruiting and retaining deputies.

Attorney to share 19th century photographs at Wilson County Genealogical Society event

Craig James, a Smithfield criminal defense attorney, will address the Wilson County Genealogical Society on February 22 to discuss 19th century photographs of African Americans.
These early photographs, daguerreotypes, tintypes and ambrotypes of African Americans are extremely rare.

What happens at the "Judgement Seat of Christ?"

Chances are that if you're reading this column, you believe in Christ. That means when you die, you will appear before the judgment seat of Christ where the Bible says we will be held accountable for what we did with our lives.
A reader recently asked me what happens at the judgment seat? What she couldn't understand was if our sins really have been thrown into the sea of forgetfulness, how can we be held accountable for them? In other words, can we go to hell from the judgment seat?

"Christianity isn't collapsing; it's being clarified," wrote Ed Stetzer in 2015 following the release of Pew Research data showing the Christian share of the American population declined almost eight percentage points from 2007 to 2014. Stetzer points out that the surge in "nones" is because nominal Christians are giving up the pretense of faith while convictional Christians remain committed.

Unleashed tantrums becoming more routine

I thought I was just stopping at KFC to get some food for my family on the way home from Raleigh. Little did I know the drama and missed opportunity to be an internet star that was to unfold as I pondered white meat or dark.

Public officials should be allowed to question anything - anytime

Whether you agree or disagree with the recent proposal of moving Nash County Public Schools the child nutrition services warehouse from Edgecombe County to Nashville to better serve all schools from a central location, the fact that a board member was reprimanded for speaking her peace over the issue is something we all should find discouraging.

NASH COUNTY 4-H SEWING CLUB

The 4H Sewing Club was organized by Regina Moseley, Nash County Family and Consumer Sciences extension agent and is taught by Brenda Wind, Nash County 4H program assistant, and Jane Tyson, Nash County 4H volunteer.
It started on January 18 and lasts a duration of six weeks. The class is held on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and consists of 10 students.
