NPD offers Citizen’s Police Academy
Nashville’s Police Department is gearing up for its  third Citizen’s Police Academy and is hoping to offer two classes this time around.

Area man charged with burglary, rape
A Rocky Mount man was arrested and charged with burglary and rape.
A woman reported to Nash County authorities the morning of Dec. 22 that a man, later identified as Timothy C. Stallings, entered a home through a window, raped her, assaulted her and held her against her will.
The report, by Nashville Police Officer David Rose, identified Stallings, 41, as the suspect in the case. The incident is alleged to have begun around midnight on Dec. 21. More ...

Draka Elevator Products plans to expand its Rocky Mount operations, creating 67 jobs and investing over $3 million over the next three years.
Governor Beverly Perdue made the announcement last Thursday afternoon.

Johnson to serve 32 years for drug charges
United States Chief District Court Judge James C. Dever III recently sentenced Chrisopher Jerome Johnson, 32, of Rocky Mount, to 32 years imprisonment followed by five years supervised release.
A Federal Grand Jury returned a Criminal Indictment on January 13, 2011. On July 5, 2011, Johnson pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (crack) and five kilograms or more of cocaine. More ...

The Nashville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star felt the opportunity to share with their community during the Christmas season. Concern for their community and those in need prompted the Nashville Chapter #332 to enhance a family’s Christmas by donating $100 to assist with their heating expenses. A group of carolers brought Christmas cheer to several people in our church family last  Friday night. Sixteen singers visited me in my home, and they all sang beautifully. They were choir members, youth leaders and youth. We thank them for bringing Christmas cheer through music to each one they visited.

Outdoor recreation increases nationally
NASH COUNTY -- Wildlife-related outdoor recreation increased dramatically from 2006 to 2011.   
The national details are shown in the final report of the 2011 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, which was released recently by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Final Report, which follows the August 2012 Preliminary Review and the September 2012 State Overview, provides more information on the types of activities and money spent for fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching. More ...
