Red Oak Commissioner passes away
Long time Red Oak Commissioner Stanley Moore passed away on January 3, 2009. He was 90-years-old.
Moore served on Red Oak’s Board for 14 years but his dedication to the town began many years before. His father was a founding member of Red Oak Methodist Church and at three-years-old, Moore helped carry bricks to the brick layers who were building the church. Moore was a member of the church for 85 years.  More ...

Wrenn named new Tax Administrator
Nash County Commissioners appointed a Franklin County man to serve as Tax Administrator for the county, beginning February 1.
Commissioners, during the regular meeting Monday, unanimously appointed Jim Wrenn to take over the position currently occupied by Gene Rountree. Rountree, who is retiring, has served as Nash County’s Tax Administrator since January 2001.  More ...

NCC adds burn lab
Nash County fire fighters will have a more realistic setting to train for fighting fires, thanks to Nash Community College.
The college recently purchased a burn laboratory, or a Swede Survival System Phase 5. The two-story unit is the only one of its type in North Carolina.
Shannon Orndorff, Director of Public Safety and Health Services, said the burn laboratory will help train not only Nash County fire fighters, but hopefully, fire fighters all over North Carolina. More ...

County studies hiring court liaison
Nash County Commissioners approved a grant application and resolution which could lead to the hiring of a new position that will help move criminals through the justice system more expeditiously.
Patsy King, Organizational Development Director, brought the item before the board during its regular meeting on Monday morning. King told commissioners that at times, the Nash County Detention Facility reaches its capacity. The facility has a capacity of 296 beds. More ...

Nashville’s Town Council unanimously approved a special use permit which will lead the way for apartments behind Robertson Realty on Washington Street.

Two killed on Nash County roads over holidays
Two people were killed over the holidays in vehicle accidents in Nash County.
On Sunday, December 28 around 3:45 a.m., Charles and Catherine Hopkins were traveling east on Old Spring Hope Road when their vehicle ran a stop sign, ran off the road and collided with a canal embankment. Catherine, a passenger in the vehicle was killed. More ...

NCC announces honors for fall semester
Nash Community College recently announced that the following students achieved academic honors during the 2008 fall semester.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a perfect 4.0 grade point average (all A’s) while taking 12 or more semester hours. Students who qualify for the Honor Roll must earn a grade point average of 3.3 or above and be enrolled in 12 or more semester hours. More ...

Edwards named Marketing Director of Brantley Studio
Dawn Edwards has been named Marketing Director at Brantley’s Studio in Nashville. Edwards, who has been at the studio for nearly three years, moved into the role effective in January.

Over the New Year’s holiday, the Ephesus Youth Group attended Winterfest at Liberty University. Jackson Wall presented a slide show of the Christian rock bands that performed. Bebe and Harold Wall and Scott Strickland were the leaders and gave praise for this spiritual opportunity to be with these young people for this experience. We have such a wonderful group of youth at Ephesus and we pray for their spiritual revival and hope they spread it to others. More ...

Our choir sang “For God So Loved The World/The Family of God” for the call to worship. Pastor Rogerson welcomed everyone and prayed the invocation. Hymns of worship were “My Savior’s Love” and “Redeemed”. Prayer concerns are for all those in rest homes and nursing homes, and shut ins at home. Other sick are Evelyn Frazier and Clara Bass. Ann Taylor and myself were able to attend worship service today. Praise God! We pray for other sick and hurting, the soldiers, missionaries and the lost. More ...

I read with interest Rocky Mount Telegram’s editorial saying he was for Rocky Mount’s Forced Annexation on Phase II (Oak Level Community Annexation. I also read Amanda Clark from The Nashville Graphic’s article in the Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 paper. It appears to me that two different editors see things so differently. Amanda stated that, “Rocky Mount’s Forced Annexation is Wrong and the Timing is Even Worse”. More ...

Finding something good about 2008
It’s hard to believe 2009 is here. But even though it has snuck up on us, I have had no trouble writing 2-0-0-9, probably because I’m so thrilled that 2008 has come and gone.
2008 was not my best year nor was it the best year for many Americans. But instead of dwelling on the bad things that happened in ‘08, I’m taking this opportunity to remind myself of the good things that happened so that I don’t continue into 2009 thinking 2008 was a total waste.  More ...

The Bulldog junior has been selected to play in the Q-Sport Cup Softball Tournament Jan. 14-17 in Scheidam, the Netherlands.
When the Cup began 1996, it was originally called the French Cup. The Cup was originated in Lyon, France, but moved in 2002 to Schiedam. The tournament is governed by the Dutch Fastpitch Softball Federation. More ...

Battle Makes Mark
KINSTON -- After a lackluster performance in her last outing during the Nash County Christmas Tournament (1 point), Rocky Mount High School senior forward Dyonna Battle came through with a milestone performance last Saturday evening in a 45-32 endowment game victory over host Kinston.
After suffering through an 0-for-16 shooting slump in the loss to Nash Central in the NCCT’s championship game, Battle scored 21 points last Saturday to become just the fourth female in Rocky Mount history to score 1,000 points in a career. More ...
