Foundation awards funds to reduce use of drugs
Several local organizations were the recipients of grants designed to reduce the use of alcohol and drugs among Nash County youth.

The grants, totalling $25,000, were given by the Nash County Foundation to Reduce the Use of Drugs. The non-profit organization was established in 1995 after an anonymous donor gave $100,000 to help eliminate drug use in Nash County. More ...

Looking back on 2006, we have to wonder where time goes. Seems like we just got started on '06 and in a blink of an eye, the year was gone.

Reflecting on 2006 for the town of Nashville, we went through some sad times, losing town notables such as Bobby Jeffries, retired Nashville Police Officer and town Santa; Elsie Clark, a volunteer to many civic organizations and our own 'Minnie Pearl'; LaVern Freeman, retired Nashville Fireman and businessman; and though he wasn't from Nashville, he touched a lot of lives here, Mike Lancaster, Southern Nash Band Instructor.  More ...

STANHOPE -- Southern Nash's Kwamaine Battle was voted to the Associated Press' All-State team in voting by the state's prep sportswriters released last week.

Battle, who played in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas before Christmas and helped the Tarheels to a victory, helped the Firebirds to a 7-5 record and second place in the very tough NEW 6 3-A Conference race. More ...
