NASH COUNTY -- The high school basketball regular season came to a close on February 14, with Northern Nash's boys squad claiming the Big East Conference crown with a spotless 12-0 record in league play.
The Knights wrapped up their perfect conference campaign on Valentine's Day, escaping second-place Rocky Mount with a 77-74 win in the Gryphons' home gym behind CJ Rosser, Jah/Marzea Williams, Kingston Little and Christian Barnes each finishing in double figures in scoring.

RED OAK -- Northern Nash's historic and incredible swim season has concluded, but the heroics won't soon be forgotten -- if ever.
It probably won't happen in our lifeftimes -- or at least the lifetimes of the gifted participants who paved the way for this monumental result.
For the second straight season, the NN boys squad steamrolled its way to the Big East Conference championship -- but the Fighting Knights weren't done there.

RED OAK -- One of the top student-athletes at Northern Nash High School pledged her college commitment back in December, with senior Emily Clay signing her letter-of-intent to Valdosta State in Georgia to become part of the Blazers' softball program.
Clay's signing came just a month after her verbal commitment to the Valdosta State program.

NASH COUNTY -- Roanoke Rapids has built a mini-dynasty in recent seasons on the Big East Conference boys golf circuit -- and will trying to claim one more crown this spring before the current incarnation of the league is disbanded following the upcoming North Carolina High School Athletic Association classification realignment.

NASH COUNTY -- Look for the Big East Conference girls soccer scene to go out with a bang this spring in the final campaign for the league in its current state.
The seven-school Big East has created plenty of pitch heroics over the past few years -- mainly from Stanhope, where the Southern Nash Ladybirds have been a dominant force under the direction of legendary and esteemed head coach Robbie Kennedy.

County's girls squads make the postseason

ROCKY MOUNT -- Nash Central is rediscovering some familiar faces in the early portion of the Class 2-A Girls Basketball State Playoffs -- and with plenty of success to date.
After a strong regular season, the Lady Bulldogs earned a home date Tuesday for the opening round -- and met up with former Eastern Plains Conference opponent Farmville Central at The Dawg Pound on the NCHS campus.
