Red Oak couple finds joy helping others
Though Jason Knapp lives with chronic diseases, he works to help others.
Red Oak couple finds joy helping others

RED OAK - What do goats, barbecue, skydiving, Brunswick stew, rifles, and chili have in common? The answer can be found on Wollett Mill Road in Red Oak, at the home of Jason and Stacey Knapp. Jason, also known as "the kitchen goat," uses all of the above to raise money to buy Food Lion gift cards for cancer patients.
The Knapp's 501 c 3 non-profit organization, the Kitchen Goat Feeds Corporation, was basically born out of a cooking video Jason did in March of 2020 showing how to make French Onion soup, which became popular, morphing into a cooking show called "Cooking A La Quarantine"

Red Oak athlete competes in France

RED OAK- Some people might plan trips to France for romance, or to sight-see, bask in history, or sample the wine, returning with perhaps a collection of photos and memories. Lillian "Kinnie" Pruden of Red Oak, however, didn't go for those reasons. She went to compete in an international triathlon after nine months of training - and an injury.
"I was eight weeks out and strained a glute muscle running," said Pruden, whose initial reaction was almost a panic attack.

Would you be willing to pray?
Would you be willing to pray?

"Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
Several years ago, a former pastor of mine lamented from the pulpit that prayer was losing its appeal among Christians. It's a sad commentary, but I agree with him. In fact, my own Christian experience has convinced me that a lot of us don't take full advantage of the power and privilege of prayer.

Luke 8:43-48 tells us the story of the woman who had an issue of blood. For twelve years this poor woman had spent all the money she had to try to find a solution to her medical problem. But none could be found. All human effort had proven inadequate for meeting her desperate need.
Then, one day she heard that Jesus was nearby, and she had probably heard all the stories about His power. So, she elbowed her way through the crowd that had gathered around Him, and had to stretch out her arms to touch the hem of His garment. Instantly, she was healed.

A time of gluttony and excess laid out before me
A time of gluttony and excess laid out before me

It's that time of year that gluttony, greed and excess have entered my life. I'll walk away having taken too much and spent too much, but still wanting more.
I'm not talking about Thanksgiving -- I bought a Costco membership.
I've always been opposed to paying for the privilege to shop at clubs. Plus, I just can't think of a time I needed to buy a 75-pound box of Ritz crackers.
However, I caved in to "external pressures" as they say.
